So, microsoft has been ordered to stop selling/importing microsoft word in the US. A $9.8 billion dollar profit came from it in 2008 alone, how much will this affect them?

Apparently patent issues and a lawsuit forced them to stop selling it.

All I know is that Microsoft are gonna lose A LOT of money from this.

That's not too hard to fix tho, if they remove the ability to open XML files then they'll be able to repackage it and sell it right?

XML is a big deal. Microsoft will appeal, which will cancel out the order to stop selling the products. Once that happens they will just settle out of court. No one will lose any sleep over it.
