Amir Sadollah via TKO (strikes) - Round 1, 0 Aaron Riley def. Shane Nelson via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) Anderson Silva def. Forrest Griffin via knockout (punch) - Round 1, 3:23. B.J. Penn def. Kenny Florian via submission (rear-naked choke) - Round 4, 3:54 (to defend lightweight title) Wow, just wow. Isn't Forrest known for coming in with a great game plan and sticking too it? The way he ran out the to octagon it was like he was thinking "I'm swinging till someone falls", like wtf he didn't even try for a takedown and I was thinking that would be his only shot at winning by pulling out a decison, Silva's striking technique and power is just scary. I don't think Forrest was really out when it ended, he was diffidently rocked but mostly just wanted the fuck outta there, he was completely bewildered that Silva could outclass him by that much that he ran through security and sprinted to the back he was so embarrassed after. After this unbelievable performance by Silva I think the only left question is, will it be Shogun or Machida? God I hope its Machida, their match up is perfect for one of the greatest fights of all time. Both are known for being happy with just dragging a fight out and slowly picking apart their opponent for the decision but I seriously doubt Silva would try that on Machida though, the dude's never even lost a round. So I'd expect Silva to try and go for the knockout but so far everyone that's tried to do that on Machida has been ktfo(see evans fight) but Silva was clearly toying with Forrest, that wasn't even close to his best. Their both bbj black belts so I doubt they would even go to the ground it'd be at a standstill and get stood back up. I haven't gotten a chance to watch the penn florian fight because I was watching a stream at work and my shift ended before the fight so I have no opinion on it other than I thought bj would win just not take him that long to do it. Did he dominate most of the fight or did florian actually put up a chance? Quote
Joe =/ Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Florian kept trying for take downs over and over again, trying to wear BJ down. BJ kept getting a few good strikes in on him though and eventually got Florian to the ground and raped him. The whole fight I was just thinking it was a only a matter of time before BJ would pull something off. The silva griffin fight was hilarious, I just wish it had gone on for longer ! That "knockout" was funny. Oh you know what else was funny ? the guy who bitch slapped his opponent, I can't remember which fight it was though. Quote
