Apart from the skins, what do you think of IPB3?

So here's a few things that I like..

Private Messages

When you click to PM someone (at least in the profile pages) you get a lightbox to send them via instead of going to your messenger box.

Once sent/received these now appear in topic form, so you can keep track of previous replies easier instead of having quotes within quotes, etc.

The Forum Home Sidebar

I like the ability to see whats been updated recently so I can go to it quickly and it should help up reply times if you see theres a new post. On the flip side I dont like it when you scroll down and theres the empty space.

This new one will get take some time getting used to. But no more grey night skin.

If you make a skin that has a background with stripes, a light colour, and a colour that doesn't contrast too heavily. It will appear to fill in the gap you're talking about when you scroll down past the updated topics. Stripes is the easy way out when you have no graphical ability like me, otherwise you can do a proper background with swirls, or circles of varying sizes. once again, it can't contrast heavily, it's a background. Usually you just go either a darker or lighter shade on your desired filler. Keep in mind when making skins that a really light colour like white, or a really dark colour like black will highlight the gap more so.

I have to say that the new layout is running sluggishly on my screen and the lack of the quick-login box is a bit of a downer.

The Smack network (fixed) skin is much better.

As a temporary skin till something better comes along, SmackNetwork (Fixed) is definitely the way to go.

I think the new software offers a lot more options, and puts a lot of options that were hard to get to in easier places. The coding is obviously much better. I'm also not experiencing any sluggishness, the index page DB query time is around .1465 sec for me. Certainly quick enough.

I think it's just a case of a few teething problems which will be sorted out in a few weeks. There certainly hasn't been any problems that have broken the board, the spoiler tag didn't work, and something about emoticons (who uses them?). It's all good, thumbs up from me.

Try out the CAWSearch.com skin, it's basically the default skin we were using before the upgrade with the new header at the top. It's got the lighter background on it so it's more pleasing on the eyes and the text doesn't get hidden in the blackness like the other skin.

There's a few issues on the moderation bars at the bottom of the topic listing / topic view but i've given up trying to fix them today as my eyes are killing.

I've put 2/3 ads back on this skin aswell, the 3rd kept messing up the design so I left it off. Any Admins, Mods or members with STP shouldn't see any of the ads.

no complaints

though I've never been sure of the side blades.

apart from that, I prefer it. Shame I can't post/click directly from front page to a post without going to a white screen (i think this is a problem with work network, not your side)

It's strange, different, odd, not the same, slightly annoying, slightly cool, maybe good, slightly bad but possibly great in the future.

I have a question, where did we actually steal those side blades from? Or did someone here actually make them? They have very little to nothing, to do with wrestling. Infact, I think they'd be more at home on a cycling message board.

We did in fact steal them, from the little to do with wrestling website known as WWE.com.

There part of the Smackdown on screen graphics. There was a bunch of other backgrounds but because you can only see the the sides of the background due to the board being in the middle the blades looked the best.

I stand by being clueless that they came from WWE.com, I think it's a +1 bizang to me for not frequenting that trash.

You should do an old school 80's WWF theme with on screen graphics from that era....they simply showed the names in plain text.

I've just got a new (crap) HP base unit to replace my Dell work PC and the board looks screwed in IE6, none of the png images are properly transparent. :2
