jitz Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I rate the first as one of my favourite movies of all time, I rate the sequel as one of the worst sequels of all time. It commits every sequel deadly sin there is to commit and gloats to your face about committing them. Thoughts? Quote
Fozy Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I didn't think it was as bad as everyone made out, it's a pretty good movie, but no where near as good as the first. The problem with this movie is the pacing, and character development. Having all the main Autobots be second to the twins and the soldiers is a bad move. Having Optimus Prime killed so early in the movie makes him look incredibly weak, then spending the whole movie to revive him, only for a 5 second jump, shoot, kill, roll credits finish was all a bit underwhelming. It was a good premise, but they approached it completely wrong. Flesh out the characters more, not add lots more and have a flashy film with no substance. Quote
CS Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Usless shit aside I went in hoping for better done action scenes and got that in full form, I almost jumped out of my seat at some spots and you can actually tell whats going on this time around where as last time it was just shiny clumps of metal moving around fast while making cool noises. They slowed down the transformation of the bots too so you can see way they transform alot easier. Now for the usless shit, seeing as its technically a plot point i'll keep it in spoilers was the "i love you" problem seriously the best sup-plot they could come up for these two? It was stupid from the start because not one guy was relating to Shia because all we can think is "its fucking Megan Fox" and then he goes on to never bother explaining why he won't and ends up saying it at one of the stangest and most blatantly obvious parts of the movie. Robot heaven was just fucking retarded, angle leading up to Sams almost death just as stupid. "I know it will work!" alright but why? They tried baiting the audence into taking their minds off why he just ran through a warzone with a bag of dust to save a dead robot by pretending to kill him off only to be saved by the souls? of dead mightybots because it was always his destiny, come on guys you can do way better. I could be wrong but also wasn't agent simmons kinda forgotten about at the end? I'm not sure if he actually died or not after he ran up the pyramid. Also I was under the impression that Bumblebee had gotten his voice back with the whole "I wish to stay with the boy" and Sam going "you speak now?" moment at the end of the first movie, guess I was wrong on that one. You'll get what you expect(action megan fox and laughs) but thats about it, just another summer action flick. Quote
jitz Posted July 3, 2009 Author Posted July 3, 2009 My list of issues... Two lame Jar Jar Binks rip offs Yoda rip off Species rip off Bumblebee losing his voice again being explained with "oh your voice is still playing up is it?" Nameless Autobots - Arcee is in it as three motorbikes, but never named and gets one fucking line. I don't know what happens to her at the end because it was just one big cluster fuck of robots. Why was she even in the movie? Optimus is the only Autobot with story related dialogue, Iron Hide, Bumblebee and those two fuck wits have acouple of jokes, then the rest are just there. Nameless Decepticons - Megatron and the Fallen constantly talk to each other and it's just awkward watching villains scheming in a movie made in the 21st century. Starscream has two lines, and Soundwave has three. Then all the identical Decepticons appear at the end for the big fight, plus some others and it's just forgettable. Soundwave is still floating around in space attached to a Government satellite....he's completely forgotten about, has no one realised a giant evil robot floating in space? The plot is identical to the first movie - Decepticon has been on Earth in past, needs to be revived, Decepticons revive, attempt to destroy world. Last movie Shia had the location of the All Spark, now he has the location of energon. There's more, but thinking about the movie makes me angry. Quote
phil Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 (edited) The twins (Mudflap and Skids) = Modern day minstrel, LOL. Edited July 4, 2009 by phil Quote
Aero Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 iaim, feel free to spoiler your post there you fool. i still aint seen it, some people love this movie some hate it so im guessing it probably depends how deep you want to go into a movie, i honestly think sometimes you guys look at detail etc a bit too much and it ruins it for you, Quote
Fozy Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Ugh, why would you come into this topic and there would be no spoilers. Quote
Aero Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 im not personally bothered i managed to findout the storyline already, but you know fine rightly someone will come in and bitch and moan even tho they should have realised there might be spoilers, as such current president on this site is to spoiler it "just incase" pineapple! System of a Daan Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 (edited) I remember I watched the first movie without any context besides Transformers being robocars. I also remember that I watched the second movie without any other context then the first movie and that it would be a shitload of awesome special effects. The problem lies with your expectations. That was why the majority of people disliked it, this was the same with Terminator Salvation, expectations killed it for loads of people. And sequels are always doomed to be worse then the first. I do agree with your OMG there's a big huge rawrbot on ur satelitez! comment strum. Edited July 5, 2009 by System of a Daan Quote
Aero Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 some sequels are better.... only some tho. yeah, im getting really good at not expecting much from films/sequels and its paying off in dividends! Quote
Jonny Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 If the first one was considered "good" when the dialogue was unbearably cheesy, I'm not going to dare watch the sequal. Quote
CS Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 The dialogue is about level with the first one, they repeat a bunch of the same lines though. Quote
RingMaster2001 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I thought it was pretty good. Not as bad as everyone made out it was. Quote
