System of a Daan Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) After dropping out of Uni last february I decided to go travelling, however being the poor bastard that I am, I'm currently working to get the money for it. The plan is, to go to Australia in September. However, I don't want to plan the whole trip but just take the plane there, and then start looking around what to do. Seeing as there are a couple Australians on this board. I wonder, which places should I absolutley (not) visit? That way I can when I'm there how I'm going there, for how long or if I'll go there at all.. Australia is friggin huge so there should be alot to look forward to. I hope some of you can help, and we could even meet up.. But I don't know if you guys like me at all =P Thanks in advance. EDIT: hmm, the title and description didn't came out quite all right... jitz Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 ...well what are you interested in? It's a big country, you wont be able to see all of it, so what do you want to see? I'll give you a head start though - Don't bother venturing inside the oval unless you're interested in seeing a whole lot of fuck all. Quote
crunk Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 This is a more accurate map. (I swear I've posted something similar before). Basically, stick to the East coast. Some general rules/thoughts are: - Only go above Rockhampton if you don't mind stingers at every beach, and some gnarly hot days. - Only go to adelaide to see a AFL game. Or to play with fires. - Only go to Perth to say you've seen Perth. - Visiting Tasmania is frowned upon, unless you're in a high speed yacht race. I'll add to this list later. Jitz, feel free to continue. Quote
System of a Daan Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 (edited) This topic was basicly made to decide which parts are worth visiting, Strum. I figured visiting the inland would be cool only for a day or two. Watching an AFL match would be awesome! Crunk? Why is visiting Tasmania frowned upon? Well, are there some special landmarks I really should visit? The idea is to get ideas. Edited May 20, 2009 by System of a Daan Quote
jitz Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I think you have the wrong idea about Australia; we're not like other countries, we're not about landmarks beyond an opera house, a giant rock in the middle of fucking nowhere, and all things "big". If you come to Australia, it's more about meeting the cool people we pride ourselves on being; you know, coming over and having a laugh down at the pub with us. You need to see an AFL game, but can just as easily be accomplished in Melbourne...like Hobart there's little reason to come to Adelaide. Visiting Tasmania is generally frowned upon because no only are they inbred, but the entire island is like a poor man's nature walk. You can see far better in other countries. Quote
crunk Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 On second thoughts, is September even footy season? And yeah Jitz is right.. just get amongst it man, there's heaps to do if you just ask around. Even hire a 4WD and just cruise from say noosa to sydney along the coastline... stop in at sunny coast, gold coast, snapper, past the big banana, Nimbun for a bit of cheech and chong action, Camp at Byron Bay, keep cruising down to coffs, newcastle, maybe stop for a NRL game if it's still on, go inland a bit, camp out and go offroading. There's heaps of shit to do man... all that stuff could take as little or as long as you wanted. Quote
jitz Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 AFL finals run all the way through September up will the last week in September for the Grand Final. With the season going the way it is, it's so evenly match this year, they will be some intense finals. Quote
crunk Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Yeah I always forget. NRL is tight this year as well... coming on Round 12, there's only 4 points separating the top 9 teams. Anyone here apart from me heard of State of Origin? Quote
