crunk Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 luff. But yeah, I'm looking at buying a high def tv and either a xbox 360 or ps3 (cheers k-rudd). Is there any things I need to know when buying these? Like what you guys think are better, possible faults in some products, best price/value relationship etc.. - Supa Quote
scoot Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 how much money do you have to spend? what size screen? at the moment, id recommend the Samsung UE40B7000W. only problem is the price, its kinda steep. Quote
crunk Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 Umm that's the thing.. I want like a fairly nice sized screen.. big enough that it makes it worth buying a HD tv, but not so big that the cost blows out. Quote
Joe =/ Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Don't buy the latest models ? Just pick up an older model for half the price, which is still fucking amazing quality. No idea if mine is still available anywhere but I got it last year for Quote
Aero Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 if you want the latest and you have endless money get a samsung LED or a 200Hz plasma.... however, i'm pretty sure laser and OLED will be coming out soon which will shit on the LED (its not really that clever, its just LEDs instead of a light tube behind a current style screen) meaning ur LED purchase would be a waste of moeny. as far as makes of tv go, panasonic Viera's are a cut above any other model out there, especially in plasma's. yes, they cost a bit more, but i'd follow joes advice of getting a slightly older model and save Quote
crunk Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 Cheers for the info on the tv's boys. Any opinions etc on the consoles? Quote
Aero Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 most ppl anybody seems to know has a 360 and there are more games for it. both now support HDMI, 4 controllers... umm... oh, its cheaper... it doesnt have blueray and you cant connect a psp to it... how important are those 2 features to you? lmao Quote
crunk Posted May 3, 2009 Author Posted May 3, 2009 Nah, none of my mates 'play laptop.' You can kind of assume the type of company I keep from that haha. But yeah yo Jitz, whats xbox live like on australian internet connections etc? And what's the price like? Quote
jitz Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Keeping in mind im on a 24mbit/sec Internode plan (the best you can get in Australia). This was originally pretty long, so I'll just give you the jist of it. Live is shit mostly, PSN is a little better. It depends what you're playing, the top tier games work ok on Live, Halo, Gears, Call of Duty; apart from them though it's mostly runs shit. PSN is far more consistent with the third party titles. The first party titles all have Australian servers for the smoothest online experience you'll get, Live servers are all on the other side of the world. With games like Guitar Hero though, the service is irrelevant, it doesn't rely on latency. Live costs something like $70 a year. Right now, I'd get a 360. In the next year though Sony has a bunch of awesome first party titles coming out, and Microsoft has nothing to match them. Sole 360 owners will finally definitely start feeling left out in the next few years. Quote
Aero Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 hopefully when such a thing happens tho jitz, the ps3s will have dropped a little more in price meaning more ppl will just own both. the sole 360s owners will probably always out weigh the sole ps3 owners tho... i may be wrong tho. Quote
jitz Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 No doubt Aero, the PS3 has definitely left it's charge far too late, and Sony has done their best to sabotage their own chances. I honestly don't think Sony has a lot of breathing space on the price of their console, and in tough economic conditions I don't think they will lower the price; if they did, it would be negligible. Sony will survive this generation and come out with it's head still held high on the back of excellent first party titles and strong third party relationships, just like their last two consoles. They don't need to sell the most; as Microsoft has proved, that doesn't always mean you're making money. Quote
