deadman_cgc Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Does anybody know of any reliable and free downloadable programs where i can edit music. And by editing music i mean removing layers from a song, such as removing guitar, bass, drums, vocals, ect. It would be greatly appreciated if anybody does, thank you!!!! - deadman_cgc Quote
Smacktalks Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 The majority of music tracks tend to have all the tracks merged into one, with the exception of left/right speaker tracks. I don't think there's a way to remove certain sections unless the track was designed that way. I'm sure we had a big discussion about this awhile ago. Edit: Here's the old topic about a new filetype that allows you to do what your asking. Quote
jitz Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Yeah it's simply not possible, I can't name anyone off the top of my head that releases the seperate tracks, and it's all because of dance music. Original artists earn decent money in royalty fees from remixes, and samples of their music. If they simply handed out the materials to everyone, then it's a lot harder to identify and prove that their music has been used, and therefore be paid for it. Also common sense goes a long way in thinking "how the fuck if I have a song, will a program work out what the fuck the drum track is, or the guitar track, or any of that?". It's the reason Harmonix had to go to the trouble of getting stacks of covers recorded for the first two Guitar Heroes. Labels weren't overly willing to hand over the master tracks, so to get a seperate guitar tracks they had to record the song themselves. Quote
Aero Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 if you turn down frequencys etc you can kill certain instruments etc but its a bastard to get it right. i've not found software good enough for my level of ability at it like. Quote
Subrick Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I can't name anyone off the top of my head that releases the seperate tracks NIN and Lamb of God, do. Plus there's some cockamamie way to remove vocals from an mp3 on Audacity. It'll remove a guitar track, though. Also, people have been able to remix Guitar Hero and Rock Band songs by removing the seperate instrument tracks. I really don't know how to do it, but they can do it. Quote
Fozy Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Rock band and guitar hero tracks are masters, thats how you mong. Quote
jitz Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Plus there's some cockamamie way to remove vocals from an mp3 on Audacity. It'll remove a guitar track, though. A lot of karaoke programs can do the same thing, but as Aero said, it's all about picking the right frquency, and the program just has a guess what a normal voice track should be, and takes that down. It usually takes a lot of the guitar with it because it is at a similiar high frequency. You'll still find though, that a lot of the vocals remain anyway at a quiet level. NIN and Lamb of God, do. NIN did cross my mind, but after standing through a 2 hour mind numbing set back at the start of March, I didn't want to give Trent any credit. His new shit is shit. I didn't know Lamb of God has done it. So collectively, we can name a guy well past his prime, and one album of Lamb of God. Safe to say it's not the done thing - my point. Quote
Subrick Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Actually two albums. They released a second disc with those albums consisting of all the individual instrument tracks and vocals of each song. People could remix, remove instruments, lay over more than one of the same track (add 3 bass tracks to one song for very heavy and dense bass sound for example), etc. Quote
Aero Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 aerosmith also released software and a track from their honkin on bobo album that you could remix, you just had to download it from their aerofroceone website..... i hope that got sum1 excited... now for the disappointing news.. it was for a competition, its off the site now and it only worked with that 1 track anyways.... jitz point again i guess! a guy past his prime, 5 old dudes who keep fucking about rather than finishing their newest album and lamb of god wo personally i dont rate to high, not my styleee.... not an impressive amount of masters out there at all.
