Fozy Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I started the argument, but you argued back, thus you have an argument. you daft twat. Quote
Aero Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 The Republic of Ireland is part of the British Isles, so in that respect they can call themselves British. not entirely accurate i would imagine, not everyone down south can apply for a british passport etc meaning they aint british........ but it does seem that if someone from the south as an great great great great 50th half cousin twice removed who was 1/16 "british" they can indeed apply for a bristish passport or dual nationalityness That's nationality, a different thing. We're all European, but it don't say European on our passports. ah fair point.. but nobody from the south WOULD class themselves as british... unless it was passport/driving licence related.. why? i get caught speeding down south, present UK licence... i get off scot free... and vica versa have a few friends in east belfast of all places... quite a protestant "WE'RE FUCKING BRITISH" area... who have dual nationality for said reasons lmao Quote
RingMaster2001 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 If only I could do that with South London... Quote
Fozy Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 hey man i went to london and it sucked. that's twice now. BOO. Quote
RingMaster2001 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I'm not shocked to hear you say that...culture and class are hardly things that will attract a Glaswegian Quote
Fozy Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I enjoy going out during the day, etc. However most of the people in London are cunts. I've yet to meet someone who lives there that is actually pleasant to talk to. The night life is also dire. Nice place for a visit. Quote
RingMaster2001 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 (edited) True...we are all miserable bastards...I get shocked when I go to the countryside that people actually stop at crossings. Plus, going out between the hours of 4-6pm on weekdays could lead to you dying in any number of ways. Edited April 15, 2009 by RingMaster2001 Quote
Niles Jansen The Third Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 It's the same as south and north america. You wouldn't call Brazilians or Argentinians "Americans". Like I said, I'm done with this matter. South Korean Guy + North Korean Guy = 2 Koreans. Same shit man. Quote
Big Bizang Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I'm not shocked to hear you say that...culture and class are hardly things that will attract a Glaswegian + 1 Bizang. The problem I have is the classifications (for North/South Korea AND Irish/British debates) are classifications given to themselves born out of decades of fighting and terrorism where many have lost their lives. So I don't think it's ever going to be 100% reasonable to try and bring our own justifications to an area we don't live in and won't hope to understand until we have lived through it all firsthand no matter how sensible they seem. I don't see the reason to call yourself British if your Northern Irish but I would never try and argue they stop it. Because I'll never fully understand. Quote
Aero Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 the reason is simple BB, irish is saw as catholic.... you've already mentioned the troubles, for some, to be called irish pretty much offensive to them due to the bitterness they have for catholics and, seeing how nobody ever refers to us as northern irish, so british is the next best thing .... only reason i'd say im british now that i;ve moved out of east belfast and stopped being so stubborn is to prove a point to the retarded people who dont know northern ireland is a country or part of the uk (this is most commonly found in americans) and just see northern and southern ireland as being the same as north/south england Quote
RingMaster2001 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I lived in Northern Ireland in my early teens, and alot of my family are from there and still are. They live in Coleraine and Port Stewart, as well as some other places in Co. Londonderry and Antrim. Like nearly all of the white people in East London (who are not Jewish), my lot are all descended from Irish Catholics who came over in stages since the Victorian period (and now some have moved back). There are very few Irish protestants in East London....or Protestants of any kind. Quote
Aero Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 yeah lol there it is, the belief that if ur protestant you cant be irish lmao Quote
Aero Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 so the difference between british isles and british islands is ireland... bit random Quote
RingMaster2001 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I think the term British Islands is Political - all territories under sovereignty by the British government. British Isles is a purely geographical term. Quote
