Chillalex Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) just checking, because I'm considering getting a laptop from them Holy fuck I've been researching many internet retailers (PC sellers) and SHIT, theres a LOT of bad ones. I used to think Overclockers.co.uk were good, given my experiences, but apparently it's hit and miss whether you get your stuff and customer support are shit (so I just got lucky when my stuff came and worked!) Also PCSpecialist.co.uk are apparently one to definitely avoid... So all these places come to light when you look in to them, but I was about to despair that I wouldn't find anywhere decent when I found Novatech. When I looked them up, out of 38 reviews only one was negative, and they had a 3.5/4 star rating. This is opposed to OC/PCspecialist's 1 out of 5 star ratings with majority negative reviews... So yeah, if anyone's used them let me know, just really want to double check before dropping that amount of money anywhere. (sounds like a beast though, 1GB GPU and 4GB RAM, and all I want to do is write shaders!) Edited March 30, 2009 by Chillalex Quote
Smacktalks Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Never used them, I always go for GHI Computers, but there website is pretty much a price list. If you check it for a store local to you, you should be able to get a good deal. http://www.ghi.uk.com/ Edit: Actually they only seem to have stores in the North East :2 Quote
Joe =/ Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Reviews on stores are generally unfair, people only go to them to write bad reviews. Think about it, how many people are going to write a good review just because they got their product and it worked ? Nobody can be arsed. If you buy something and it doesn't arrive etc, you're pissed - so you vent your frustration in a shitty review on a review website. Overclockers are fine, fuck the haters. Quote
ALL STAR Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 (edited) Did you end up getting the laptop from novatech? thinking of getting the X55 seems like a great deal for the price. In the same boat though just want to make sure they are good, heard mixed things but its generally positive. Edited May 21, 2009 by ALL STAR Quote
Elmnt254 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 OK. so. for people looking to buy computer and other electronics and accessories. There is this site that I use where I bought the computer I am on now. It's an amazing website and they often have sales and special promotional deals and such. My computer Was originally $700 US, I got it on sale for $400 US. but anywho. The merchandise is really good and I got my computer like three days after ordering it. Although I am sure that will not be the case for those blokes living in the UK or Aussie. Tiger Direct Quote

Smacktalks Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 That's a pretty sweet laptop, i'm still undecided what to go for. I can get a cut price Dell or HP Laptop through work, but i'm really wanting to go for a MacBook Pro, except I don't want to pay so much for the MacBook. :\ Quote

Chillalex Posted May 22, 2009 Author Posted May 22, 2009 yeah that's the laptop I got, works great - I was running unreal engine 3 on it (newest builds) without a sweat. But, only on XP x64, seems to fail on vista 32. Does get hot though! Quote
ALL STAR Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Gonna get the vista 64 version heard it runs well with it without any problems, seems like alot of laptops have problems with the 32bit version. Gonna end up ordering it next week seeing as this is a bank holiday weekend, what colour is it by the way seens a few pics some it looks silver others its like a bronze/silver colour. Quote
jitz Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 But, only on XP x64, seems to fail on vista 32. Alex, why don't you get the Windows 7 RC from the Microsoft website? You can just use the 64 bit version of that, and that's free till next June or something. It's just Vista but without all the Vista head fucks. Quote
