Smacktalks Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Villareal vs. Arsenal Manchester United vs. Porto Liverpool vs. Chelsea Barcelona vs. Bayern Munich Class draw for United, on paper Porto look to be the weakest side left in the competition, then if we go though we'll play the winners of Villareal vs. Arsenal in the Semi's. LegendKiller74 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I LOVE the liverpool/chelsea champions league clashes, they tend to be a hell of a lot better than their league encounters as well, awesome stuff. I've said from the start I could see a Man Utd/Barcelona final... and now that Barca seem to have come over their blip who knows. United will need to pick up their performances though, obviously. Smacktalks Posted March 25, 2009 Author Posted March 25, 2009 Hope not. Liverpool/Chelsea games usually bore me tbh, although it should be better if Rafa continues to go for this attacking football he's suddenly had them start playing. If they play like they have recently they should easily defeat Chelsea. Quote
Aero Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 yeah, i think rafa finally realised something (going by what riera was quoted saying). it was fairly obvious this season that we struggled against the shit teams.... why? because most of those teams, especially at the start of the season, will sit back and defend against the "big 4". liverpool had no way of breaking this but against better teams, they were able to get the counter attack and find spaces left by the opposition attacking. the new strategy seems to be, rather than waiting for the match to settle and work out how to go about the match, attack like for from the start, if you get a goal the other team HAS to try and atleast get a point, and as such they attack, liverpool find space, get counters etc and get the goals they want. stevie g and torres on form definately helps too tho.. LegendKiller74 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 They've definitely come into form at the right time of the season, I just hope some of the results against the lesser teams earlier on in the season just don't prove to be too costly. Like you say Aero, when Gerrard and Torres are on form and playing together, it's hard for any team to cope with. I think there was a stat (I could be totally wrong here because it sounds ridiculous, but I'm SURE this is what was said) during the United/Liverpool game a couple weeks back that Gerrard and Torres had only started for liverpool together 9 times before that game... Pretty crazy stuff. Just shows what a difference they do make. Quote
Aero Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 aye, that season, the stat is correct. another 1 is that every game the 2 of them have started in the last..... 14 months now i think, liverpool have not lost. i think the key is torres on form just keeps goin, he slips or loses the ball and actually tries to get up and go after it again. stevie G is playing as a 2nd striker more than a defender, to deep for the other teams midfield to really mark him, but not deep enough that defenders will come out to mark him as it gives torres more space.... .... im mayb well off in all my wee theorys here, but i think im right lol stevie is getting a hell of a lot more goals.... golden boot award may be his this year, making it a midfielder 2 years running......
