Chillalex Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) Just to let you all know, if you bad mouth this game: http://smacktalks.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=24458 I will now take it to heart, as I'm going to be working at Rocksteady as an environment artist on it Just in discussions with my agent about wage though so I havent signed the contract, but they have offered it me. Went down last week to have an interview, really cool studios, some of the stuff in the game sounds really interesting but I dont think I can say much. For any sceptics, I can't really do much to alleviate your scepticism but when the projects done and the work gets released I can post it. Also, the job means I'm moving to London, and living with my girlfriend - bonus, as long distance was a little hard. ALSO, my graduation ceremony is tomorrow, and the university awarded me something in Academic Excellence - basically means I get 300 quid to spend on anything tomorrow. So things are looking up! I'd like to thank paul for this forum and community, I know it sounds a little contrived and whatnot but its through basic hacking that I got in to this industry and without the forums I used to post on as a wee bairn I probably wouldnt have gone this route. Oh and if youre interested, my game art portfolio is in art&design now I dont need to conserve bandwidth. Edited November 17, 2008 by Chillalex Quote
Joe =/ Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 whoah, very cool man, really pleased you got a decent job ! Hope your wage is monsterous, let us know what you get. Congratulations nig Quote
Chillalex Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) naw man wage be average though I still be ballin Bit nervous though as its actually my first job ever, never even did lil nugga stuff like paper rounds or shop assistant. interestingly though it hasnt sunk in to much and I'm more excited about the engine build they are using, which is sad, and the thought of 300 is whizzing around my head so fast because I don't know what to buy. Don't really want to spend it all on 360 games (read: will end up being spent all on 360 games) Edited November 17, 2008 by Chillalex Quote
Big Bizang Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 That's so fucking awesome. That games looks off the funking chain. Really pleased for you mate, I'm currently in the job-hunting/interview faze myself so I read this with not a little jealousy but still well done. Quote
Aero Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 is it wrong that when i saw "first job" as the title, i feared it was something sex related? Quote
r-ratedsupastar Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 congratulations man hope everything goes all well Quote
Smacktalks Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Congrats Alex, it's great to see your hard work paid off! Although, I'm not too suprised, the art work you posted previously was amazing and looking at your new stuff (Slums, House Hall, SAW, etc.) it's really top quality and wouldn't look out of place in the biggest games on the market. Make sure to keep us updated and best of luck for tomorrow mate! Quote
takersfan Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Thats soo cool dude. Good luck with that. Quote
Aero Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Freakin'? you watch too much family guy phil... LMAO Quote
phil Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 The noun "freakin'" is actually quite commonplace in my household courtesy of the New Yorker that my grandma is. Regardless, this is a truly splendid moment for Alex. Quote
Chillalex Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 (edited) Yeah well BAGF works for EA! snigger yeah, anyone who gets a job in games is now overshadowed by BAGF. Maybe one day Ill punch him in the face. at EA. Anyway cheers everyone, it feels a bit weird starting a job (I got details finalised, start this monday!) and especially given the nature of it, I'm trying this week to just fill in tiny holes in my skills alongside packing and moving. Hoping I get a day or two grace period to just sit down and learn the specifics of the project, like scale, style, formats, etc. After I pick that up, I'm not too worried, and the type/scope of work it sounds like I'm doing is great. edit: single worst thing is though, I dont get paid till the end of December. Which would be fine, but its awkward timing. Christmas, obviously, alongside living in London for a month. So I'm having to use the 300 awarded me to live off, and then I think once I get paid I'll spend 300 of that erroneously. Graduation was good as well, even though my arse got numb, but it was good to see old people. Edited November 19, 2008 by Chillalex Quote
Joe =/ Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 OH COME ON ! Surely you could of slipped in a comment about what your salary is. Whats the cheddar ?! Quote

CanaMatt Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Make some graffiti on a wall say "Matt Gray was here", that would be sweet. That is so awesome, congratulations, and best of luck. Quote
Thom Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 If I see any characters in the game which recreate my trademark look of a horned-mask with a black cape and bodysuit, then I'll know you put it in the game as a way of saying I'm your favourite person from Smacktalks. Quote
