bigpoppn Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Is awesome. It shows a darker Metallica, in lyrics, but an equally awesome Metallica intrumentally.Suicide & Redemption, My Apocalypse and especially The Day That Never comes are songs you have to hear. Quote
jitz Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Yeah It's pretty good. Far better than St Anger, which I think is simply what Metallica were asking for. It's also seems to be made for Guitar Hero too, the album is a blast on GH3. Some great chord changes, great solos, a shit load of frantic strumming, and some strange time signatures. Quote
Aero Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 i liked it the 1st listen, probably because yes, its better than st. anger, but its not a patch on alot of their older stuff and the more i listen to it, the worse it gets. also, the unforgiven 3? 1 was awesome, 2 was good, 3 is kinda piss, and when he sings "Search for seas of gold" it reminds me on gold member from austin powers 3 which is a bad bad thing! bigpoppn Posted September 18, 2008 Author Posted September 18, 2008 It's better than St.Anger, no doubt. This is actually the first CD I bought from them, I downloaded the others, and I seriously think it's pretty good.Me and my mate are big Metallica fans and both think it's a pretty sweet album. But indeed, the Unforgiven III isn't as good as the rest of the CD. Spectre Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Every other album they have come out with is better than St. Anger. As for got it the day it came out, great stuff i like all the song except for the Day that never comes, its not that its a bad song, its just that it is a weaker sounding song compare to the rest of the album, maybe its just me though? Aero Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 i'm just not convinced that anything on the album is the best they could come up with. Quote
Subrick Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 It's a really good album. I'm not gonna say it's an amazing album, but it's pretty good for what you get. The Day That Never Comes is a really good break from the rest of the album if you want some mellow Metallica yet don't wanna listen to Nothing Else Matters. The only real gripe I can find (other than Unforgiven 3) is James sounds a little forced on some songs, particularly Broken, Beat and Scarred. Quote
jitz Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I think people are being over critical of the album. Comparing it against Metallica's entire back catalogue is simply unfair. They're old guys now, past their prime, their hey day has been and gone. What you get is a good Metallica album, which shows their age a bit, and it sounds a little behind the times. It's still a solid effort, and it would be seen as a solid effort if any other band had of released the album. Quote
Aero Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 hmm... i'm actually almost tempted to defend the unforgiven 3 now! i was saying its "a bit piss" but some of you seem to hate it! i just wouldnt have called it the unforgiven! strum ur right as always i suppose, but to me, it's just not a great album, aerosmith have a few not so great/kinda shit albums but i'll listen to them, where as in this case, i've stopped listening to it, its just not my cup of tea Quote
bigpoppn Posted September 19, 2008 Author Posted September 19, 2008 I still like the album a lot, despite what others think. It's got a few strong and heavier songs, and also has the quiet songs I sometimes look for but don't find. Quote
