MasterOfTheSwanton Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Let the discussion begin. My submission is Rooney's volley against Newcastle after arguing with the ref. Quote
Aero Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 i've always had a soft spot for patrick burgers free kick for liverpool against utd a good few seasons back. it curled 1 way then the other... not saying it was the best, but its quite memorable for me. Quote

MasterOfTheSwanton Posted July 24, 2008 Author Posted July 24, 2008 Can't believe I didnt think of Giggsy's goal, i'd have to rate that the greatest goal i've ever seen. Chest hair for the win! Quote
RingMaster2001 Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 (edited) Oh my god. Goals have been scored for 150 years from hundreds of teams and you pick 4 goals from 3 teams in the last 10 years? Give me a bloody break. Edited August 22, 2008 by RingMaster2001 Quote

Smacktalks Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 1st: Good build up play but the finish wasn't anything special, just a low drive. Cantona's against Liverpool was better, jumping backwards to strike the ball. 2nd: Best's is one of the best all time goals scored, but in a poor league with low class opposition. Ryan Gigg's however took on one of the best defences in Premiership history to score his FA Cup wondergoal. 3rd: Seen Gigg's score loads just like that, 1st goal in this vid for example. Tighter angle and a defender to beat. 4th: Good, but not as good as Dennis Berkamp's goal in the World Cup from the opposite side. 5th: Cantona did exactly the same against city, however Andy Cole's was further out. RingMaster2001 Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Are you going to say that Man Utd invented football in the 90s soon? Because that's what you are angling at. The first goal is one of the greatest goals of all time because of the build up play. It was a 30 odd something move goal. That is class. Maybe you should call this the greatest finishes of all time. MasterOfTheSwanton Posted August 23, 2008 Author Posted August 23, 2008 No, i'm simply reffering to goals i've seen, and being a United fan i've seen more United goals than other teams. Football is way harder than it was pre 80's-90's. Now football is a full time job full of top athletes, even the lower teams in the prem have great players. Could you see Best taking on the Chelsea defense in the same way to score that goal? In the periods you reffered to lower teams were so bad you'd have 10+ scorelines, yet when was the last time you seen a scoreline like that in recent times? The closest was United vs. Ipswich (9-1) and that's only happened once in Prem history. Quote
RingMaster2001 Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Football has been a professional full time job since the 1900s. Also, football was played with a hard leather ball, on a pitch that was covered in slush and mud, rarely rained off, and you are trying to say it's harder now? Leave it out. They are trained more, but if the likes of George Best and Pele played on a decent pitch for 90 per cent of their games they would have pulled off wonder goals and wonder strikes like today. The highest ever scoreline has been 10-0, the highest on aggregate was 12-1 (10-0 + 2-1) shared by West Ham and Liverpool against lower league opposition. Hardly regular 10+ scorelines you are referring to, when the highest has only ever been 10-0. Stop talking absolute shit Paul. Quote
MasterOfTheSwanton Posted August 23, 2008 Author Posted August 23, 2008 Re-Read the post, I said you DONT have 10+ scorelines now as opposed to past times. You still have matches played in heavy rain, mud, etc. look at the Ireland game on Wednesday for example. Going by your point, Rooney, Ronaldo, etc. would be just as good back in Pele's day. Now, quit going off-topic and get back to the subject of the greatest goals scored, as I still dont see any response to the last few I posted, just a change of topic because the goals I posted were simply better. Quote
RingMaster2001 Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Oh get off your high horse. You don't have 10+ scorelines. Full stop. The record is 10-0. It's happened twice. Thus West Ham and Liverpool holding the record. Last season Middlesbrough beat Man City 8-1, a few years ago you beat us 7-1, we beat Coventry 9-0 and you beat Ipswich 9-0. Awfully close though don't you think? Quote
Smacktalks Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 For the record.. Germany 13 - San Marino 0 Quote
RingMaster2001 Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 San Marino? To quote the great John McEnroe "You can't be serious". The League record is not above 10-0. Quote
