Subrick Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 My little brother just dropped the TV from the counter. It was about a foot in the air and he's 4 years old and about 30 lbs. It came very close to crushing him. It was one of those big , 30-something inch TVs that weigh about 150 lbs. It's sad because he's autistic and doesn't know better but stupid because there was a 2x4 of wood wedging it between the bottom and top of the entertainment center that my mom took out for some stupid reason. Niles Jansen The Third Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 (edited) Tell you what Subrick. I would bet any money that everyday atleast one member of this site has a near death experience, or is very close to someone who has a near death experience. I know your coming here looking for "Poor kid, hope he's ok", just because you feel you need the attention. You're definitly looking in the wrong place. Find a good buddy, tell him all your problems. It's not anyones job here to look after you and make sure your comfortable, and make sure no one says anything too critical to you. You have problems that plenty of people face everyday. A challenged brother for instance. I know a guy I went to school with, all the way from grade school, who had a brother who had serious disabilities. He didn't go around telling everyone on the internet, or people he didn't know about how his brother was special and how TV's almost fell on his head- not even when he was just a youg kid. He accepted the fact his brothere was that way, and wasn't looking to get extra attention out of it. If you want attention, learn an instrument or something, and do school talent shows and shit. And I'm not saying no one is going to give a shit about something serious that would happen. I'm just saying, nothing serious happened, and you made a bigger deal about it then needed. Joe =/ Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 How did a 4 year old move a 30 inch CRT. Even I struggle with that shit. they don't budge easily. Quote
Subrick Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 It was moved out very far to the edge of the surface. My dad took the whole entertainment center out and now the TV's just on the floor. Quote
Nemo Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 i think he doesnt know better because he's 4, not because he's autistic. Quote
The Don Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I got thrown out of a truck and almost died, where the fuck is my sympathy? Quote
jitz Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Please lets not start a contest on how close to death we've all been. I've no doubt nearly everyone here has a story of how due to their own fault, or the fault of others, or simply by pure bad luck, they've nearly been wiped off the map. Heartless Mini-Rant - No one, other than your family and close friends cares about your 4 year old autistic brother, we all have our own dumb fucks in the family we have to deal with. Whether they be dead beat druggy Uncles that constantly overdose and eventually really do kill themselves (yep, true story there), or a brother that can't think that maybe starting a car in gear while you're underneath it isn't such a great idea (wow, another true story). Idiots are everywhere, whether it be from age, immaturity, medical reasons, education, and sometimes people just plain outright don't think ahead - we've all done it and said to ourselves or out loud afterwardss in a witty tone "well, maybe I should have thought about that a little longer". If you had nearly died because you though it would be a great idea to ride a bike down a steep hill...except the bike's brakes didn't work and you slammed into a tree at the bottom of the hill - well that would be mildly interesting, mildly. The cold hard truth that no one dares tell you though is: People will listen and nod to stories about your autistic brother, and you'll think they're genuinely nice people. Fact is they're normal, they secretly don't want to be listening to it. It's boring them, it's not an interesting story. They're humouring you, so they don't hurt your feelings. If he had actually died, it would be another story. Some more people might care, I still, will not. Quote
Subrick Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 Okay, I understand. I'll keep my personal business to myself. And my church's reverend. Quote
jitz Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Why would you tell a guy who believes in mythical creatures like god and jesus? He's clearly delusional, he's mentally unstable. You have nothing to gain from that. Quote
Subrick Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 Well, what do you believe in? "Real" beings like a flying spaghetti monster, or Allah? Quote
jitz Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 See that's where religious people are misguided - why is your first instinct to ask me what I believe in? Why does there have to be the almighty being guiding mankind through life? Why do you need a figurehead for to righteousness? Are you that insecure in your life, in yourself, that without this ridiculous, plot hole ridden, fairy tale as a safety net, you feel somehow lost in life? Why must someone believe in something in that context? Mankind is free, we do as we please. Yet a thankfully diminishing number of people continue to want to bind us to an ancient stories that were created simply as tools used in the past to make people do as they were told. Why would you want to tell your Reverend? A man you hardly know, you simply know he supposedly believes in the same thing you do; but you've always been taught to not speak to strangers. What a wonderful contradiction! It must be in the bible because it'd fit right in. The smart people are the 'Reverends' that worked it out, the ones that used religion as a tool to gain in life. Money, fame and sex. The original intentions of the system, a system made for blackmail, stealing and extortion. All ingredients in the grand scheme of controlling people, to make them do you will. You take the weak and give them something to look up to, and you promise a better life if you do a higher being's will....with a donation and a blow job to help along the process. Why are there so many religions? Why were so many books detailing all these gods, elite people, prophets, and great feats? They all contradict each other, but religious types ignore the contradictions, or simply pass believers of other religions as misguided. The truth is that one guy saw what the great con was, and what he could gain from it back home. Change a few names, throw your own spin on it, hey put a magic dragon in there, it'll attract the kids. It's a con, and if the long dead creator of the con was alive today, he would be locked up in prison for breaking countless laws - rape, theft, sexual assault, fraud, extortion, bribery. He'd get life behind bars, but then again, the smart ones would hail him as the greatest genius to ever walk the Earth. His plan has fooled billions of people, has made hundreds of billions of dollars off the poor and the wealthy, it brought him exactly what he wanted, fame, fortune and sex. Quote
Subrick Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 He's still smarter than L. Ron Hubbard. Quote
jitz Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 L Ron Hubbard was hundreds of years to late to the party, people simply won't believe a new fictional story now as fact. Which can be put down to education, and history. We better understand our planet, and who we are, and how we evolved. Nobody would believe a story about god and jesus now if it was a brand new story either. People have wisened up to it though, the number of religious people around the world drops every year. For all religions, people around the world are simply smarter now than they were when these religion systems were first put in place. We have better official facilities to deal with people's issues, and they work fine without religion. An exception are addiction rehab centres that use the 12 step program, it's entirely based around god. God is simply used as a tool to control the person's addiction though, it's pitiful the blatant use of it as a control system. Quote
Subrick Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 So I take it you're an athiest? Quote
Subrick Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 (edited) What, did a minister molest you as a little boy and you swore off religion forever? Or do you just hate the truth? EDIT: What the hell happened to your post? Edited February 21, 2008 by Subrick Quote
jitz Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I don't like being labelled. Why do I have to be categorised with a title for simply for being neutral? Atheist is a word derived from the Greek word 'atheos' essentially meaning "without a god". So it was created by people who believed in god's. So without religion I wouldn't have the label 'Atheist', so why should I accept it? I'm not atheist, I'm normal. Quote
Subrick Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 People label people who don't believe in any god as Athiest because that's how the world works. Plus Richard Dawkins' an asshole. Quote
Nemo Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 ... people around the world are simply smarter now than they were when these religion systems were first put in place.... i've got 2 words for you: the pyramids. nevermind the indoor plumbing that some ancient civilizations had. believe me, we arent smarter now - we just advanced on the foundations set by earlier civilizations. in the words of the almighty george carlin, "we're barely out of the fuckin' jungle." take away electricity and you'll see how smart we are. the reason we (well, most of us) dont go around killing people and raping women (or men, if you swing that way) is because of the religious-based morals that we're taught, that have been passed down from generation to generation. somewhere along the way, people lost faith and decided to replace "teachings of jesus/muhammad/etc" with "common sense", but the true source of our morals cannot be denied. you can refute this and go on about how smart people are, but take some time to think about where you get your morals from. if it's your parents, where'd they get theres from? whered your grandparents get theirs from? it goes all the way back to times when people lived their lives by strict religious principles. you can try to spin it any way you want, but in the meantime, you might want to thank jesus, allah, and all the other prophets to making "be a good person" the norm for society. and before you or anyone else calls me out on being religious, im not. that's all. Quote
The Don Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Subrick, the story of Jesus isn't even orignal, it's a spin off of a story the Pherygians(sp?) had. As soon as I get the book unpacked, I'll post it here. EDIT: Oh and other than posting how Jesus is a fabrication I'm not even getting dragged into this debate. You Jitz and Sal are doing a good enough job. Quote
Legendeath Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Subrick. Not trying to sound like a copy of the posts above me. Your argument is pointless. Truth is you can't argue on someone's opinion's. It's highly unlikely that they will change their opinion's. I personally believe in God for my personal reasons. Not because I was raised on it. But because of things that have happened to me and my close family. I am religious. But I don't think it's more correct than anyone else's opinion. Quote
