CanaMatt Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 figured it would be simple, and I only really did it for the ease of sharing shit with my 360, and, WELL I am at a bad place. Every time my computer boots up now it tells me to insert disc labelled SP2, and if I say no, it just shuts off my computer....and, well, long story short, I have no disc that says that. WOT DO I DO Quote
jitz Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I dont know, but you could have just gone into Windows Media Player, turned on Media Sharing, and simply used the X Box Dashboard's 'Video' option to play the video file (which actually supports more formats like xvid, than the Media Center on the same fucking console does). So yeah, you don't need Media Center Edition man...it's a gimmick. Quote
Aero Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 u do need media player 11 tho i belive for that to work... still easier to upgrade to than MCE Quote
Smacktalks Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Or you could just put your xvids, etc. on a removable drive and plug that into the 360 and play it. Getting back to your problem Matt, I got the SP2 cd free via the microsoft website. You can just signup and they'll send you a copy. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx ^^ You can download and burn it or just order a free copy. Quote
Nemo Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 you need wmp11 for sharing and it's fucking awesome. also, just download winxp sp2 from bitorrent or mirc and burn. fuck waiting for ms to send you a copy. Quote
CanaMatt Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 Well its half way through an install, and downloading and burning a data cd with just an exe file on it isn't what its wanting at all, and even if I download a windows XP with it integrated that really won't help me get out of this install... I need an SP2 CD, and I can't find one to download at all, so I ordered, but it'll take 6-8 weeks... Quote
jitz Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 It's a pain in the arse, but maybe putting your hard drive into someone elses computer, formatting it, and loading on another version of Windows will get you a usable computer for now till the disc arrives. I suggest XP, and no even worrying about Media Center and doing it my way. Quote
scoot Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 XP media centre comes spanned across 2 CD's with a third CD full of updates. you need both CD's to correctly install MCE, or it simply wont work. if you used a torrent, look for another ISO. otherwise, get a new torrent Quote
CanaMatt Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 yeah I had 2 CDs, simply labelled Windows MCE 1 and 2, not one named SP2, and neither worked when I tried to put them both in at that screen, neither worked, I searched for this particular problem and, while rare, it is usually attributed to bad hardware(typically ram), so I opened up the PC, grabbed the grungier looking ram stick, took it out and gave it a whirl. Still didn't install correctly, but at least is up and running well enough. Quote
