seriously paul, dont get it, its video capabilities apparently aint great, its only a 2 meg camera.... which cant TAKE videos, its deemed sluggish, has alot of bugs, its ipod related, its gay and out of the 5 ppl that work at my local o2 shop, 5 of them now hate it.

knowing apple, expect a new "2nd generation" model soon with improved features.... hold of until the 4th or 5th tho until its actually caught up with proper phones.

according to super geek Chris Pirillo its downfalls are worth its interface. and Chris made a video of reasons he didn't want an iphone before he received it as a gift from his wife, now he has switched from his blackberry. and tbh, id trust that super geek's opinion, having used an ipod touch, an iphone is something i would love to try. also, i was told, if bought from the apple shop, it comes without the contract, but without any actual usable 'phone' features, apparently this can be worked around using a firmware downgrade essentially unlocking the phone to any network.

in any case im not sold on it just yet, once i have tried one, ill make a proper verdict.

one of my good friends has an iphone, and being a fan of apple products i think its pretty sweet.

to be honest, you will have to judge for yourself becuase its each to there own, i dont think you will be dissapointed though.

Ive used one, its great fun, and seemed nice to use. Most phones arent shit without their firmware and it just so happens apples is amazing. Seriously, if your THAT bothered by megapixels on yo camraz then buy a fucking camera. Dont understand the idea that a phone has to be an amazing camera to be any good nowadays.

Youre always going to get reverse snobbery going on when theres something like this; the public likes it therefore they cant like it. But fact is, its pretty good, nice to use. There are of course cons. Its apple. So that means new versions are going to pop out left right and center as soon as you buy one, making you feel inadequate, and it costs far too much for what it is. For that reason Im thinking of getting a fake iphone; I like the real ones but apple are taking the piss with the price tag. Even though I could afford a real one... its sheer cheek of them to ask that price.

But yeah, its good, and considering you dont have an ipod, itd be worth getting... but hold off perhaps. 16gb for an ipod is tiny, so just consider that if you can deal with 16gb of music then its worth getting anyway (personally I think 8gb is more than enough, you arent gonna get through 8gb of music within like, a fucking day away from your pc.)

A buddy of mine who lives in Columbus has one and he said its alright but not nearly as good as he had expected it to be, if you are looking for something with the internet then i would recommend a Blackberry of sorts. Many of them have full video capability. I bought the blackberry pearl just before christmas and it works great.

The internet browser is easy to work and i bought a large memory card for it so i can store videos and tonnes of music on it, not as much as ipod but probably about equal to an iphone. I would look into those as well before investing into an iphone right away.

im not a big picture taker as i hate carrying around too much, but part of the reason for that is because every time i wanted to take a picture, i pulled out my phone and it was shit quality. since getting thr k850i i've taken loads....

Alex you may of just talked me into getting it, I'm not really bothered for the camera. I got the Sony Eriksson k800i last year because it was supposed to have the best camera, yet it's still rubbish compared to most digital cameras. If I wanted to take photo's badly I'd just got for a digital camera.

The one thing I dont want though is to spend that much and then see a new version come out, or the price drop heavilly(SP?).

As for the Eriksson, I've always hated the style of it and the buttons on it dont even work most of the time I press them a year on. Every other phone I've had lasted ages and looked half decent. The erikssons just tend to look ugly.

Edit: That said the new Walkman one (Thin Black) looks quite nice.

It was an ill thought out trap. IF you want good pictures then you will be prepared to take out a camera, too, granted, but your proposing to go get a camera, phone, and mp3 playa and take all them out with you. Finding things of good quality for any of those, individually, is going to cost a bomb.

And the ericssons are boring for a number of reasons. First, look at them. Butt fucking ugly. The firmware is dull as fuck, too. Put simply theres no life in them, theyre just phones that arent anything special. Nice and black and grey. And maybe some orange trim if you want to pay more.

And what paul said. Fucking buttons dont do SHIT a year down the line. Phone I had before this, was totally borked and had no number inlay. I had to press the keys with a biro to get it to do anything; it was a more enjoyable experience than an ericsson, still.

my w810 is still going strong over 2 years on... only my bro uses it now.

any my point was if you WANT a good camera, phone and mp3 player, buy them all seperately (ie what you said about the camera only extended to mp3 players too). you then essentially contradicted yourself.

i'd say ur opinion on sony ericssons isn't shared by most as they are the fastest selling phones in our shop, personally i love the look of the w880 (tho the buttons are a bit annoying until you get used to them), the w910 is pretty sexy too. i loved the w850 as it was chuncky, reliable slide and looked pretty good, alot of people still love the look and feel of the k800i and as for the k850i, the button lay out is hardly ordinary and boring.

as for the firmware, whats it missing from a nokia, samsung or <shudders> motorolla? the only problem i have with the firmware is when companies stick their OWN on it, usually removing or restricting the flash menus etc, but you get an unbranded firmware, higher end walkman series phone and look through the flash themes, they are FAR from dull.

Yeah my opinion isnt shared by most - a quick cursory glance on any train will prove that - but what the public wants does not necessarily make it good, it just makes it a commercial success.
