The Don Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 Floyd Mayweather Jr., the world's No. 1 boxer, is strongly considering a revolutionary jump to mixed martial arts under a deal being discussed with Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's adviser and best friend, told ESPN.com Friday night that the five-division world champion, who generated 3.25 million pay-per-view buys and more than $200 million in revenue in two megafights in 2007, came away from a Thursday meeting with Cuban giving serious thought to taking his game and considerable drawing power to MMA. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/ne...tory?id=3165552 I'm not exactly holding my breath on this one, however if it did happen I'd find a way to see it. With all the trash talking (granted it's died down) between MMA and Boxing, then if one of the top Boxers had an MMA match... that'd be history. Granted it wouldn't be a five start match, but it'd still be worth throwin down the 50 bucks to see. Quote
The Don Posted December 26, 2007 Author Posted December 26, 2007 Penis jokes aside... Who would they even put in a match with him? Quote
Heart Breaker Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 If it was UFC? Sean Sherk in a heart beat. Sean Sherk is the fighter who is tailor made to beat a guy like Mayweather. He would take him down immediately, avoid the striking game, and pound Mayweather out for a TKO victory. But this will more than likely be an HDNet production. So who knows who the hell Floyd will face... Quote

Heart Breaker Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 No, by his wrestling alone, that's what makes him tailor made to beat Mayweather. He could easily take down Mayweather, avoid the striking, and pound out a TKO victory. Quote
The Don Posted December 27, 2007 Author Posted December 27, 2007 Keep in mind I don't pay attention to weight divisions... What about Roger Huerta? He's got a good stand up and a decent ground game. I'm just not too sure if he could take too many punches from Mayweather, but he took the punches from Guida like a champ. Quote

Heart Breaker Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 You can have all the takedown defense in the world, but if Sherk gets a hold of you, you're going to go down. You would have to be a world class wrestler to avoid Sherk's takedowns, and Mayweather is anything but a world class wrestler. It would take years to fully develop those skills, and even then, he still might not be as good as Sherk. Quote
