Chillalex Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 alright, last night I went on my yearly SAW trip to the cinema. Firstly, I quite enjoy the fact that a new series has come out of nowhere, like Nightmare on Elm street, with countless sequels. I know some dont like this, but I like it as it makes it feel more like a pulp film so to speak. Anyway I liked Saw, alot, and I actually found Saw 2 to be ok, but Saw 3 was average. However, I watched Saw 3 again and it seemed to improve, so i found it to be the second best in the series, second to the first. Anyway, everytime you go to see a Saw film you expect it to suck hard. This time, was different. Saw 4 is actually a different approach, theres a lot more character development in it. In particular, Jigsaw himself, which was long overdue. Theres still gore and scenes that will make you cringe (more so than the other films) but again, its not pointless and this film sees a return to meaningful torture - Jigsaw is back (although hes dead) and gives the players a viable way out. However, this is all underlined by one big huge failure - dont read on if you dont want it spoiled. The film follows some police dude named Rigg, and all the while he's being tested. What makes it SUCK, is that the basis for testing Rigg and also, the clues hes given to escape, are so vague, so, incredibly, vague, that it almost seems tacked on, though apparently this is the entire reason for the film. The rest of the film I will swallow, and accept with a pinch of salt, but its just confusing that this is incredibly vague. Of course, the ending STILL has a great twist to it, and the film runs parallel to Saw 3, making Saw 3 actually a better film for it, having been explained by Saw 4. Overall, see it, its much better than the standards we've come to expect from Saw films. Oh and the soundtrack is the same as they've been using for four years. A good thing. When the main theme kicks in, with all its recapitulation, when the main plot twist is revealed, its a great part of cinema. Fact. Don't care what anyone else says. Oh and lastly, the ending and even the beginning sets up for more Saw sequels, which I'm actually happy for. Quote
Spectre Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 (edited) Yeh I Saw it the weekend it came out with friends, it was good dont get me wrong but it could have been better. i got so confused at the end of the film. I still like Saw 2 the best. Yeh the Main Theme is one of the best you just know something good about to Happen. and they have had saw 5 and 6 written since Saw 2. After 6 i think thats it. tokidoim Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Didn't you make an almost identical thread concerning Saw III. You know, the "I'm amazed it didn't completely blow but I mostly enjoyed it" kind of post? Curious... nosig Quote
Spectre Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 (edited) I dont Know Why But When that Main Theme Hit and The Twist Came and everything was reveled, It Blew Me Away i was Like "Wow That was Amazing i love this movie!" I Think it was the Way they Built Up to It. See Everyone Says That Saw 1 was the best, But the thing is My Friend gave away the Ending to me and i was really pissed, and Basically that was the BIG moment of the film, thats why it not my #1 Saw Film.
