Subrick Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 At the height of its power and popularity, the Ultimate Fighting Championship today lost the man many recognize as the face of mixed martial arts. UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture announced his resignation from the Las Vegas-based promotion, leaving two contracted fights, his job as an on-air analyst and his heavyweight crown on the table. Heart Breaker Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 There's definitely a lot more to this story than just this article you've copied and pasted. But I don't feel the need to go into it right now. I'm just shocked, to say the very least. Quote
The Don Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Since no one (including myself) ever believes Subrick, here's Dana White's comment on it; http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=news.detail&gid=8236 Quote
Heart Breaker Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Alright. I agree and disagree with Randy's decision. I agree with Randy. I believe he has nothing left to prove in the sport of MMA. He's done it all. He's a two time light-heavyweight champion. (Three time if you count his interim championship reign.) He's a three time heavyweight champion. The only logical fight left for him is Fedor. The UFC and Fedor couldn't reach an agreement, thus leading to Randy's [second] retirement. I also agree with Randy on how he's not getting paid the money he deserves. The UFC were going to pay Fedor a million dollars or more per fight in the UFC. Cro Cop is getting paid 300k per fight. But Randy, the person who helped build the UFC to what it is today, is only getting paid 250k per fight. While that may not be a bad offer, he still deserves more respect than Fedor and Cro Cop considering he's one of the pioneers of the UFC as well as the current heavyweight champion of that company. I do not agree with Randy. You signed the contract on the dotted line. You agreed you were going to paid 250k per fight. You've always said that you fight purely for the competition. What does money have to do with anything? Why is it so important now? If it's about the competition, than 250k should easily be a great offer. I don't understand how you can easily tell everyone "I'm here because I love competing. When one of your main complaints is about the money that you're making. You deserve more, I won't argue with that. But do not contradict yourself Randy. It makes you look like a hypocrite. The End... for now. Quote
