Smacktalks Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Can someone tell me how much I would be looking at for a dedicated server, capable of running a forum with 200+ users online? With enough bandwidth for streaming video and a lot of images? I've been looking at our current host's packages below, but whould like something to compare them against. http://www.aventurehost.com/dedicated/ The Quote
Smacktalks Posted September 14, 2007 Author Posted September 14, 2007 The main reason for option above is we will have 100% of everything, CPU Usage, Bandwidth, disk space, etc. Or there this cheaper option that gives us everything below and 50% CPU usage (40% more than we currently have). Quote
Aero Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 aye, cheaper one would still give us alot more space man (spacemen woooooo) i'd go for it. Quote
bigpoppn Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 WOOOOOOOO!! Anyways, I don't really know what this is about and I don't wanna read , lol, but the cheaper one is always better.Always. Quote
Smacktalks Posted September 14, 2007 Author Posted September 14, 2007 In order to help pay for it I'll be re-adding the Google ads, as they tended to bring in around Quote
bigpoppn Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Any big changes coming or does everything remains the same?? Quote
Nemo Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 id wait to see if theres a boom in members first before pissing all that money away. Quote
Smacktalks Posted September 14, 2007 Author Posted September 14, 2007 Ok, I've agreed to go for the Reseller package. The main reason I wanted to do this now is so the new site can have as much content hosted on it as possible, rather than relying on my blueyonder account, imageshack, etc. to host content such as images, videos, etc. This should also mean we'll have the bandwidth to entertain things like, forum arcades, etc. It also means space not used can be resold to help cover the costs. I think this is a big step in the right direction for this place, it's a risk if new members dont join and stick around but if it doesn't work we can always revert back to the lifetime package and sell the reseller account. We'll also have the option to host more websites should we decide to branch out. Any ideas on a use for the free phone number? O_o Or even what the free domain name should be for that matter? Quote
CanaMatt Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 how does the free phone number work? Quote
Smacktalks Posted September 14, 2007 Author Posted September 14, 2007 Possibly an IPT phone number? Like I can set it to a skype account and people can call it from a normal home telephone? That's only a guess, dunno how it works. Quote
scoot Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 i would assume it to be a VOIP phone number.... but ways to use it.... it seems pertty useless maby sell technical help via phone conversations for games consoles mobile phones and PC's, we have plenty of members who could do the PC side of it, IF he is willing aero has the mobile phone knowledge, and im sure plenty of us have flashed a 360 a few times Quote
