HD-DVD vs Blu Ray

Extra layers are expensive, it's an increased production cost. This will only further drive up disc prices, which is the last thing HD home media needs.

nice try, jitz, but that has absolutely NOTHING to do with what the better format is. i suppose cheap sedans are better than ferraris because their production costs are lower, right? bullshit.

Sal comes through once again.

several months later, warner bros. has become blu-ray exclusive. paramount is rumored to be jumping ship as well, which (i think) leaves nbc/universal as the only big company to release movies exclusively in hd-dvd. really, it's irrelavent if the formats are samey, since quality of the format isnt worth a damn if theres hardly any movies released on it.

if you want the best of both worlds at a reasonable price, get a ps3 and a cheap hd-dvd player (or the one for 360).

im sticking with regular dvd til the end.

Yeah, I heard about this. It's unfortunate that they are making us choose a side but thankfully my DVD player still holds up just fine during all this bull shit. The faster this format war ends, the better. And it looks like we're on the verge of seeing it end soon.

if a movie is worth seeing in HD, its worth seeing at the cinema so i'd rather do that, giant screen owns over HD tv. i'll be sticking with dvd until bluray or the ps3 become a decent price.

loosing the choice has its advantages tho, less production costs from those who released it on multiple formats, cheaper parts over time etc will result in bluray becoming a bit more affordable, i'd pay anextra

Jitz by mother fucking KO.

It only took 4 months, but this victory is sweet.

I don't understand why all the movies companies didn't all chip in a hire me to decide who wins this ridiculous format war. Instead though, they've all spent millions of dollars on advertising, producing movies for formats that simply don't sell (HD DVD), and spending hours and days in board rooms discussing which format leader is talking the bigger load of shit.

A million dollars and would would have said "Hey guys, I'm always right, and Sal is always wrong. Side with me".

This topic is now about fan mail for me. Send em in guys!

your reading comprehension has failed you (again) along with your memory. this argument (that you ran away from) was about the image quality of blu-ray vs hd-dvd, not about which would win the so-called war or which movie studios would side with. if you actually read my comment, i never conceded to blu-rays supposed superiority and i never will.

so yeah, congrats on winning a big heaping pile of nothing. you deserve it.

Cleary the video quality is better, otherwise consumers and every fucking movie studio bar two wouldn't have sided with it.

Besides Sal, if this entire arguement was simply about the format's image quality. Why did you make posts like..

this

i concede my original statement that blu-ray is the better medium: http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/CES...50GB_HD_DVD/422

it all comes down to personal preference and budget. why spend $500 for a ps3 (or pretty much any blu-ray player) when i can get an hd-dvd player for pretty much half the price? its one thing if blu-ray was better, but fuck paying twice the price for the same shit.

this argument is moot. if someone owns a blu-ray player and one of their favorite movies is hd-dvd exclusive, then they'll be forced to buy an hd-dvd player - and vice versa. so yeah, everyone will end up owning players for both formats, its inevitable. as far as releases on both formats go, its a coin toss. since retailers are also starting to go exclusive, ones choice can very well be based on where they get their movies, another one could be based on price or whatever.

im sticking with hd-dvd. if the movie i want is blu-ray exclusive, i'll pick it up on regular dvd (as aero mentioned, the quality isnt THAT bad), or download and burn it to dvd myself. fuck blu-ray...in the little hole in the middle of the disc...

and this

looks like bay caved pretty quick, eh, jitz?

and this

No one was owned but you Sal. You started your arguement by siding with me in that Blu Ray holds far more promise in the future than HD DVD due to it's size. Then you backflipped and argued that now that HD DVD could match Blu Ray's size (at an increased cost, which was my point) that I was somehow owned and had lost the arguement? But now you say it was all about image quality. You contradict yourself twice in this topic, trying so hard, clutching at straws to beat me. I was right, Blu Ray holds far more promise as a viable format for a high defintion disc for the future, nearly everyone worth a damn in the movie industry has agreed with me. You lose.

at first i though a fuckton of posts were deleted from this thread, then i realized this is just a continuation of something that was started in fucking march. this argument has been going on for almost a fucking year and im not quitting now.

from the original thread (http://smacktalks.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=20179):

... Blu Ray does look better.

There's so many more factors to take into account Sal than just what resolution the machine outputs; most importantly being encoding and decoding. With Blu Ray having much more space, there's less compression in encoding, so the picture that appears on your screen looks far better. ...

not that you're wrong there, but now you're acting as if high capacity and high quality are mutually exclusive or some shit. they're both relevant in this argument. so for you to call me out on focusing on storage (which has a direct impact on image quality) is blasphemous, especially when YOU BROUGHT IT UP.

hd-dvd matching blu-ray's disc capacity (cost is irrelevant) completely shatters the basis of your argument (see above). owned.

so uh, how are you enjoying that heap of nothing? good, yeah?

are you trying to be clever?

2. an irreverent act or statement.

3. the condition of not being reverenced, venerated, respected, etc.

do yourself a favor and keep your snout out of other peoples' business.

took you four days to do all that research, eh?

take a look at the very last bit of definition. anything can be "sacred, priceless, etc." one of the things that sacred to me is my intelligence and when someone makes a ridiculous comment that insults my intelligence, it's irreverence to something that's sacred to me; otherwise knows as BLASPHEMY.

you know what else is sacred to me? my time. stop wasting it, you blasphemous cunt.
