Thom Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Well there hasn't been a thread about this yet, and I'm going to see it in 2 hours and 57 minutes, so I thought I'd start one. Anybody else going to a midnight screening? Quote
Aero Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 nah, i'm paranoid about it. main reason for this is that there was a theory that there are alot of fake scenes out there for it, as such i cant help but think the pig scenes from the adverts arnt part of it Quote
bigpoppn Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Spiderpig Spiderpig...lmao!If that's in the movie that's great but Aero is right, there are a lot of fake scenes but I think I will wait till a DVD comes out or till I can watch it on Digital TV. Quote
Thom Posted July 25, 2007 Author Posted July 25, 2007 There were no fake scenes. It was, without exagerration, the very biggest disappointment of my entire life. I found it painful to watch. You know when Nickelodeon used to make movie of their cartoons which were ridiculously far-removed from the show? That's exactly what's happened here. The plot is simple, the cutting left-wing humour is reduced to Ralph Wiggum proclaiming "I like boys now" after seeing Bart streak and Homer calling somebody "Boob Lady". Any jokes which had any potential are executed in the most predictable way imaginable. This is not the jewel in the crown of such an iconic series, it's an embarassment, and shows what the name has come to. Any credibility that it had been barely clinging onto since season 10 has been completely demolished. Still though, Spider-pig!!!!! :lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol Quote
The Don Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 So is it safe to say The Simpsons have officially jumped the shark? Quote
jitz Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Everytime I have nothing better to do and sit through a new episode of The Simpsons I wonder why on earth it's still being made. It went from being the funniest show on TV, to episodes of Law and Order being funnier than it. Episodes like Marge playing an MMO are executed in the worst possible way, and it's only highlighted by South Park delivering their non-stop hilarity fest with their World of Warcraft episode. I did like the 24 parody episode though, it was a good finale to the last season, but when it's the only funny episode for the year the point is moot. So I'm in no rush to take on the masses and sit next to a 12 year old kid that scrunches his chip packet every ten minutes. It's not like the writers can all of a sudden turn around 8 years of terrible writing and pull out an hour and a half of hilarious gags. Pity, funnier shows have been axed, while The Simpsons carries on on name alone. Quote
Thom Posted July 25, 2007 Author Posted July 25, 2007 It's ruined my faith in humankind as well. Spider-pig almost got a fucking standing ovation, whereas a scene where Ned and Bart are at the top of a moutain and Ned exclaims you can see all four of Springfields bordering states - which are infact nowhere near each other - was met with straight faces. When the apocalypse is nearing, there's a shot of "Moes Bar" (WTF?!) next to the church (WTF x 2?!) and everybody rushes out, the religious types turn to drinking and vice versa. This was probably the cleverest joke in the whole movie, and receieved a titter at best. Oh and Maggie is pretty much turned into Gromit. From Wallace and Gromit. Yyyyyeah. Quote
scoot Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 problem is, people are still watching the simpsons, thats why its still making masses of profits for fox. its got to be said that when the simpsons finally DOES cease production, it will go out like friends did, with a massive send off from all forms of media. 18 years of the simpsons and the people are still watching.....even though ratings have gone downhill, there still good enough to keep it on the air. get rid of those ratings, get rid of the simpsons. im actually still excited about it, but i do believe its going to be a massive let down. south park however is still making great episodes, it could be the new adult simpsons if it carries on for another 7 seasons Quote
The Don Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Speaking of movies... how was the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie? By that I mean did it actually come out? Quote
Nemo Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 it came out like 2 months ago, was released on the internets 2 weeks ago and will be released on dvd at the end of august. it was the worst movie i have ever seen, but i love it. Quote
samountain Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 Yeah it was average at best. I thought it kind of started off okay, but then it goes into the whole Homer mode where it's just Homer making stupid joke one after another. Still, the atmosphere of the crowd helps so if you're going to watch it, watch it early so the keen people are there. The animation was good... ANYWAY, Futurama not too far off!! Quote
takersfan Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 I just grew out of the simpsons the jokes are too dumb and immature Quote
bigpoppn Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 It's just another really fun show to watch but not to make a movie of. Quote
Nemo Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 http://imdb.com/title/tt0462538/ a fucking 9? nothing against the simpsons, but theres no way that movie couldve been THAT good. Quote
Trips Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 I just watched it, I thought it sucked. About the only thing that actually made me laugh was the part where Homer was whipping the snow dogs all the time and even this joke is clearly not a "Simpsons" joke. Tom, I think people didnt laugh at the turning to drink/religion or the bordering states gag's because they just wern't excecuted well. In my personal opinion I just felt it was a film used to get cheap shots in at politicians and raise awareness for more economical living in the states. Quote
scoot Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 my oppinion, after having seen the film. it sucked, it reminded me of the x-files movie due to its suckieness Quote
bigpoppn Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 If the movie is that bad I'm not going to see it.I thought when it first came out this was gonna be the movie of the year. But apparently it isn't.Is it really THAT bad?? Quote
Big Bizang Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 No I thought it was alright. Good for a throwaway laugh. It is basically an extended version of any idea from the last few seasons though. I don't think those two gags were poorly executed I just think people were too fucking thick to get it. It takes a basic grasp of American geography to get the first one and the church/bar joke was classic. I can't understand why it didn't get a bigger laugh. Quote
Aero Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 i'm probably going to see this later, but only because the cinema near me does orange wednesdays! Quote
Thom Posted August 2, 2007 Author Posted August 2, 2007 Do some Irish cinemas not do it? I told ym ex-girlfriend once that the orange-day marches took place because Irish people were disguntled that they weren't eligible for the Orange Wednesday offer. She believed it as well. This is the same girl that let me stick it in her asshole though, so she must have been pretty fucking stupid. Quote
Aero Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 some cinemas in NORTHERN ireland dont, as for ireland i aint got a clue. anyways i went to see this movie expecting shit and it was WORSE than i expected. the the saints/sinners joke was pis poor. my overall summary is this - if this movie was released 5-10 years earlier it would have been good, it wasnt and as such ut was predictable, lazy, very unoriginal and used both old jokes and jokes that where slightly funny a few years back when everyone else did them (e.g greenday/titanic joke). overall rating 1.5/10 for spiderpig and chainsaw jokes.
