Thom Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 I've got a friend in London who's heard my mixing and liked it, so when he decided to start putting club nights on in Worcester with DJ's from the club nights he puts on down in London, he asked if I'd like to DJ along-side them. I snapped up the offer automatically, and then realised I couldn't just take my laptop down to a club if I wanted to raise the roof. Bring this tale up to the current moment, and I've just bought a pair ot turntables and a mixer, to use in conjunction with my laptop, and my existing set-up. It looks like at the moment I'm gonna be teaching myself everything, using the fundementals that I learned from Laptop DJing and translating them over to vinyl, to a varying degree of success. What I'd prefer is to actually be able to speak to other DJs, I've got a couple of friends who dabble, but the more advice I can get, the better. I don't want to turn up to this club night and look like a tit. Quote
Trips Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Here in primitive Warrington Thom most club DJ's are working Virtual DJ or PCDJ without anything else, I dont follow you really here. Do you mean Virtual DJ is to limited for you to really get a good set/bit of scratching from? Quote
Big Bizang Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 If you need somewhere to crash in London I'll be there from September thus completing the target of meeting an ST member as well. Quote
Thom Posted June 9, 2007 Author Posted June 9, 2007 I'd just feel like a tit only using a laptop, it'd be entriely possible to do a set on it, but it wouldnt be much of a crowd-pleaser Quote
DJ Armageddon Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 (edited) ive been a turntablist since i was 15 im now 19 thom. turntables are a BIG learning curve and can honestly not be learned and perfected in a few weeks. the biggest thing really is getting the BPM down. this is MUCH easier if your turntabbles or mixer have a BPM machine built in. but if not u have 2 do it all by listening. im not sure what exactly need help with so just respond here and ill help u out with what i can. but if u want help just acctually learning the tables you would need someone there with u but ill do the best i can to help u. Thom Posted June 10, 2007 Author Posted June 10, 2007 I understand the fundementals, as I said I'm familiar with Laptop DJing. I don't know what I need help with, I literally don't know where to start; just any advice at all is useful really. Quote

DJ Armageddon Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 like fo real the botto line is if u want to learn to dj with turntables u just have to sit there with ur turntables and mix. its really something that has to come natural Quote
Jonny Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 (edited) http://myspace.com/JusticeTimberlake My latest mix. That's a pretty nice mix, Thom. Thom4whitelabel. *edit* I take that back. The guitar part half way through the song muffles alot of the other sounds. It would sound better without the guitar, or atleast if it was cleaned up a little. Edited June 18, 2007 by Jonny Quote
Thom Posted June 18, 2007 Author Posted June 18, 2007 Like it says, it's a demo. The piano from Head Over Heels is two beats out when it first comes in as well, I intend on cleasning it up. Quote
