Aero Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 my mate changed his routers password and cannot redeem it he has also not taken a not of his wep code any suggestions? (he uses windows) Quote
Heart Breaker Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 I really don't understand the question. 1) Is he on the internet, but can't change his wireless router settings? 2) Can he not connect to the internet at all because he forgot the WEP password on his router? Either way, I would simply reset the router. Then connect the computer to the router with an ethernet cable. After that, log in to the gateway, and change the WEP password. By default, your router should not have security enabled until you enable it. So resetting would be the best option. Quote
scoot Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 sounds to me like the password on the router itsef has been changed as well as the WEP. problem being, as far as i know, there are no ways to reset the passwrod on the router itself. might be up shit creek with this one aero. however if he can still log into the routers configuration page itself, do as HB says, reset the router, make sure no security is enabled. set the router up, without any security, then add any needed security at the end of the whole thing. or he could leave it open ad be a nice little hotspot Quote
Nemo Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 just reset the thing. it takes a lot less time to reconfig the router than it will recovering a few forgotten passes. Quote
Aero Posted May 30, 2007 Author Posted May 30, 2007 he's tried resetting it, the password has been changed, he thinks a now ex flatmate changed it. anyways the full story is he's formatted his laptop after installing vista, realising it was a bit crap at the min and he's a tool. as such he has no internet access. it is only wep security tho, so it should be hackable, tho evidently it is easier to hack with linux apparently.
