Anyone care to explain how to open them back up keeping in mind I have no idea what I'll be doing.

If you have a firewall on your PC it could be that blocking them, otherwise it's your router. Check what ports the program uses, and then forward them to your IP. It's pretty simple if some dickhead brother hasn't put a password on the router.

a few years ago, when i found it funny to call people "poo pipe pirates" (which believe it or not was a reference to the being gay) arse/port references have be made

also in northern ireland there is a place called portrush, it gets reffered to as "the port" again depending on how a sentence was structured by someone, arse/port refferences have been made.
