Heart Breaker Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Here's a quick run down of how the new forum design is looking so far. Give me your opinions. They'd be appreciated. Off-Topic General Chat Serious Discussion Artistic Showcase Wrestling Discussion Sports Discussion Media Discussion PC Discussion/Help Video Games PlayStation Discussion XBOX Discussion Nintendo Discussion Handheld Discussion Wrestling Video Games SmackDown! vs. RAW Franchise Day of Reckoning Franchise WrestleMania 21 SmackDown! Franchise SmackTalks Platinum Media Downloads Possible Additions will include but are not limited to the following: Forum Chat Room for everyone to login too. Possible Arcade, but I'll definitely need help fixing that up. This is what I have so far. I'm also planning on bringing back Diva Database and putting it in the Off-Topic category. It's completely died in the ST Platinum section. I'd be willing to bring it back since it generated a lot of posts, and with a lot of posts, come new members. If we get one decent member out of 100, because of Diva Database, I'd be a happy man. So fill me in guys. What do you think? Good? Bad? Horrible? Amazing? lol I just want opinions more than anything. This is a lot of changes and I want to make sure everyone is happy with the upcoming changes. Edit - Also, Thank you Iain. For opening my eyes. Thank you Sal, for your amazing input. Thank you Jitz for understanding the situation I was put in with my powers. I asked Paul for access to the main site. Aero and myself have also e-mailed him. I guess it'll be a month or two until we get a reply. Until then, I hope we can turn this around. But constant input from everyone here is needed. I can't stress that enough. Everyone's opinion means more to me than my own. Because it's going to be you guys helping this site stay together in the long haul. Thanks again to everyone here for helping. You don't know how much I needed it. Quote
scoot Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 the only forum im not to sure about its sports discussion, there doesnt seem to be all too many sports topics utside of wrestling and UFC. other than that i like it, im happy to see a PC help forum, that will help seperate gaming posts and help posts. and we do seem to get a good few PC help posts. overall it looks good Quote
Thom Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 I've gotta say, that's one incredibly bloated layout you've got going on. Here's my proposal; Off-Topic Section. Forum: General Chat. (Including Media discussion) --Sub-Forum: Serious Discussion. (If you feel it absolutely neccesary to seperate from general jackassery) Forum: Sports Discussion. --Sub-Forum: Wrestling Discussion Forum: Art & Design. --Sub-Forum: Help & Tutorials --Sug-Forum: Showcase Forum: Smacktalks Platinum Video-Gaming. Forum: Sony Consoles. (For discussion of Playstation 2, Playstation 3 and PSP) --Sub-Forum: WWE Smackdown vs Raw ----Sub-Forum: WWE SD vs Raw CAW Archive (If absolutely neccesary) Forum: Microsoft Consoles. (For discussion of Xbox and Xbox 360) --Sub-Forum: WWE Smackdown vs Raw ----Sub-Forum: WWE SD vs Raw CAW Archive (If absolutely neccesary) Forum: Nintendo Consoles. (For discussion of Wii and Nintendo DS) ------------ There we have it; everything you need all neat, tidy and compact. General chat won't be so diluted, people will be able to see a greater range and variety of topics in the one forum, and there's not so much focus on three year old, last-gen wrestling games which maybe racked up a total of 6 global sales. Quote
jitz Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 *raises hand for Thom's layout* No CAW archives though. If we get one decent member out of 100, because of Diva Database, I'd be a happy man. That's thing with all Diva shit, you're attracting the wrong sort of people, the kind of people we hate. You don't get 1 out 100, they're all shit members. They come for a wank, then go. Number of posts means jack, there's no a tally of posts on the top of the board in bold. People that have no interest in looking at fake tits, will not care how many posts the forum contains. Scrap it. With the 4 wrestling game boards, this is what we're talking about HB, we want to change the board. You seem to be trying to hold onto the old shit. Scrap them. The only wrestling games today are SmackDown vs Raw and TNA Impact. Lets change the board, not re-order it. Quote
Thom Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 I couldn't give a shit for the CAW archives either, but I doubt people here are just gonna be willing to scrap everybody's work/plagiarism. Perhaps an archives section right at the very bottom where all of that crap's kept seperate, but still accessible. Quote

Fuck old wrestling games that no one even notices anymore. It's time to look forward. Not back. Quote
Thom Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 I need input. I can't believe I overlooked that earlier. That's what she said!! Quote
Heart Breaker Posted May 10, 2007 Author Posted May 10, 2007 Off-Topic General Discussion - Anything goes. Discuss anything and everything here. Sub-Forum: Serious Discussion Now here's where I have a question. And I need everyone's views. Should we get rid of Media Discussion altogether? It's done so well. We could easily have a Media Discussion as a sub-forum of General Discussion. Wrestling Discussion - Discuss WWE, TNA,... (You know where I'm going with this.) --Sub-Forum: Sports Discussion There's not too many sports topics here. There really isn't. I think that it should be the sub-forum of wrestling since that's really what people show up here for. That's just my opinion. Art & Design Section - Showcase, submit, or request help on graphics. --Sub-Forum: Help & Tutorials --Sub-Forum: Showcase Video Gaming Sony PlayStation Discussion - Discuss Sony's consoles including PS3, PS2, and PSP! --Sub-Forum: SmackDown! vs. RAW --Sub-Forum: SmackDown! vs. RAW CAWs and Hacking Microsoft XBOX Discussion - Discuss Microsoft's consoles including the 360! --Sub-Forum: SmackDown! vs. RAW --Sub-Forum: SmackDown! vs. RAW CAWs Nintendo Discussion - Discuss Nintendo's consoles including the Wii! SmackTalks Platinum All Things Media - Submit Music, Movies, Television Shows, Apps, Etc. Rough Draft so far. Still seeing what others have to say. Quote
Thom Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 It doesn't make sense for Sports to be a sub-forum of wrestling though, seeing as wrestling is a type of sport. Why not just not have a sports forum, and conduct all sports discussion in general? Also, you're right about Media doing well, but surely the topics in Media would get more responses if they were in General, rather than hidden away in a seperate forum? Also, I personally don't see why Platinum is some sort of underground piracy club. This site's one of the very last three sites I would check on the whole of the internet if I wanted to download some music. Why not have something like a Smacktalks Platinum Theatre, where each show has it's own topic and is streamed from there, it's more of a unique feature, and also more relevant to the board. It can be a sub-forum in the Wrestling forum, and could start a trend for additional features in each forum of Platinum members. Quote
Heart Breaker Posted May 10, 2007 Author Posted May 10, 2007 Also, you're right about Media doing well, but surely the topics in Media would get more responses if they were in General, rather than hidden away in a seperate forum? If anything, Media Discussion will now be way more noticeable rather than hidden with this new layout. It would be a sub-forum right at the top with General Chat. It'd be very noticeable and no one should (and hasn't so far) have a problem finding the sub-forum for Media Discussion. It doesn't make sense for Sports to be a sub-forum of wrestling though, seeing as wrestling is a type of sport. Why not just not have a sports forum, and conduct all sports discussion in general? I just think our main forum users are coming here to discuss wrestling. I'm not even too sure if the Sports Discussion will work. I just don't see too many sports posts here. I'm not doubting the forum's potential though. Hell, it could surpass wrestling. But as of right now, I have my doubts. But I'm not afraid to give it a fair shot and see if we can't get more sports posts in this forum. Quote
jitz Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 I have a crazy theory about the lack of sports topics on the board, now bear with me because it's completely out there man. Perhaps there's no topics about sport...because there's nowhere that they belong. CRAZY! I know. Give it a moments thought though, let it brew in your head. Say you wanted to post a topic about some obscure sport that no one else watched but you, and you wanted to post some clips, or get some discussion going on it...where would you post it? General Chat? General Chat is for shooting the shit, not in-depth analysis of Rawandan sporting events. Now I know a lot of the Brits around here have snuck a 'football' topic in here every now and then and it's failed miserably. This isn't because the members aren't interested in sport, no no, quite the opposite. It's because of our love of sport that we refuse to lower ourselves to game where the crowd sings you to sleep. If the crowd shut up for 90 minutes and let me watch the spectacular 'skills' on display instead of dosing off every 5 minutes while 'faceless man A' kicks it half way down the ground, only for 'faceless man B' on the opposing team to kick it straight back. Also terrible tv shows like 'Footballer's Wives' drive you further away from the 'sport', if the bitches would just shut up and bend over, the world would be a happier place. Media Discussion is good and will only get better when the board once again blossoms with activity, so it stays. Quote
Heart Breaker Posted May 10, 2007 Author Posted May 10, 2007 Thanks for blowing my mind, Jitz. I guess it makes more sense to put Wrestling as the sub-forum. Quote
jitz Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 I suggest sitting down for twenty minutes while the nausea wears off. Quote
Heart Breaker Posted May 10, 2007 Author Posted May 10, 2007 I still can't believe what just transpired. It's going to take atleast a couple of hours before this all sinks in. Quote
Thom Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Oh why would you say that Jitz, Ming's patriot-alarm's gonna be going crazy. I bet he's on his way home right now, fuming, ready to post a tirade of abuse against you "Aussie convicts" and your "Poofter sports". We've got a while though, he'll be running. He refuses to get in a taxi driven by darkies... Quote
Big Bizang Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 And he never stepped up after he lost that bet to me. You're fucked when Mr Right-Wing gets back. As long as Wrestling Discussion remians somewhere it's okay. It's the main reason I come here and the most active area. Quote
The Don Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 HB, I'd like you to keep Wrestling and MMA together. I know you think it'd do better in Sports Discussion, but wrestling and MMA seem to go hand and hand. Not to mention that we've all grown accustomed to having them both togther. Besides if NoDQ can have them togther, so can we! SmackTalks! > NoDQ Quote
Heart Breaker Posted May 10, 2007 Author Posted May 10, 2007 Mixed Martial Arts. Mixed martial arts (MMA) is the combat sport in which two competitors attempt to achieve dominance over one another by utilizing three general tactics: striking, finishing holds, and grappling. The rules allow the combatants to use a variety of martial arts techniques, including punches, kicks, joint-locks, chokes, takedowns and throws. Victory is normally gained through knock-out, submission (one fighter concedes victory to the other by tapping the mat or his opponent with his hand), or stoppage by the referee, the fight doctor or a competitor's cornerman. MMA is also used to describe any hybrid style of martial arts which incorporate techniques and theories from several different martial arts. This especially applies to MMA styles which incorporate a mixture of ground fighting, stand-up striking, and takedowns in their training. The main goal of this article is to provide information about MMA as a "realistic, few rules full contact fight sport" rather than to describe hybrid martial arts that are not typically used in minimal-rules sporting environments. As a result of these sporting events, martial arts training and the understanding of the combat effectiveness of various strategies have changed dramatically over the last ten years. While the early years included the widest possible variety of styles (everything from Sumo to Karate), modern fighters often train in a mixture of only three styles: Amateur Wrestling (focusing on clinches and takedowns), Submission Wrestling (focusing on submissions and positioning on the ground), and Kickboxing (usually Muay Thai and Boxing) (focusing on striking). These three distinct styles coincide with the "phases of combat" theory, which suggests that fights can be broken into three distinct phases, each requiring completely different skill sets: stand-up fighting, clinch fighting, and ground fighting. According to the theory, a fighter's best strategy is to determine the phase in which he has the greatest advantage over his opponent and then to influence the fight to take place in that phase. Well-known examples of MMA organizations are the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Pride Fighting Championships I don't know what I'm going to do yet about MMA. It's a legit sport, unlike professional wrestling. Why would it belong in the Wrestling Discussion rather than the Sports forum? It's not like it'd be hard to find the UFC posts. Quote
Nemo Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 i like toms layout as well. the only thing he left out is pc discussion/help which can either go as a gen sub-forum or a sub-forum for a pc games category. regardless, we get a fair share of topics about comps, so there ought to be a section for them. Niles Jansen The Third Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Now here's where I have a question. And I need everyone's views. Should we get rid of Media Discussion altogether? It's done so well. We could easily have a Media Discussion as a sub-forum of General Discussion. I'd definitly say keep it. Also- are we going to have any specific theme? It seems silly to have such a big focus on wrestling for the skin when we only have one forum for it. I'd say make banner with someone getting smacked in the mouth. Perfect for the site name, I'd say. Quote

Legendeath Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Well I like all the idea's. I would say look at really established forums like www.fkn0wned.com and www.overclock.net and get some idea's off that. Just look for popular forums and parts and base it off their forums. Quote

The wrestling you see Shawn Michaels do is completely different from the real (notice the word real) wrestling that someone like Matt Hughes does. MMA is a sport. Professional Wrestling is entertainment. Either way... tonight I'm changing the forums around. I was going to wait on Aero so we could each handle specific areas of the forum, but he hasn't been on MSN in a few days. So I guess I'm going to handle all of it. So please, bear with me tonight as I'm changing everything around. Thanks guys. Quote
Nemo Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 hbk could outwrestle randy couture and matt hughes at the same time, blindfolded with both arms tied behind his back. also, hed be asleep from boredom. Quote
