Thom Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Seeing as we've all been posting with each other for around twelve years now, it's inevitable that some of us will have grown up and got jobs. So, what are they? At the moment I'm working as a temporary...office guy for, yes, Worcestershire County Council. It's becoming an annual thing, this is the third spring/summer I've worked here. Basically I work in an office with one other girl and input/change peoples records for some big system switch they're doing before everybody's next payday. I'll admit it's not the most thrilling of jobs, but they're really laid back about letting me wear what I like, we're allowed to listen to music in our office, I can take time off or start late/finish early if ever I like, and because of the somewhat urgent nature of the job, they encourage overtime, which is paid at double-rate, so if I come in on a Sunday I earn about Quote
Tychoma Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 (edited) I'll be stewarding at Leeds and Glade this summer. I don't get paid, but I don't have to pay for tickets either. The actual job hunt starts when I've got this fucking university work out of the way. Edited April 12, 2007 by Tychoma Quote
Tychoma Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I don't know, I think we'll hear about the line-up within the next couple of weeks. I've never been before but I'm going with my pillhead dancefreak friend, she says we hear about the lineup when we get trained or something. You going to creamfields again this year? Chemical Brothers headlining. Quote
Thom Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 See my new thread Didn't think Glade would hold much appeal for pillheads, it's more of an ambient electronica festival. Quote
Joe =/ Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Sadly I currently work in a pub kitchen. The best description of the job would be "Chef's Bitch". I work saturdays and sundays, i've forgotten what it's like to have weekends off. Quote
Thom Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 Ahh that was my first job, I think we've all been there. I guess the good thing about working in an office is nobody really needs you on weekends, so you don't have to work them unless you want to. Quote
scoot Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 im an IT technician, and its terrible. the only good thing about it is i can take my hollidays pretty much anytime, even on the shortest of notice Quote
scoot Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 repairing computeres, hardware and software issues. dealing with customers over the phone serving customers designing the odd form for the shop (EG a repair sheet on which we can input the problems with computers when we book them in for repair) building computers preparing computers for sale (software installations etc) keeping a tidy work environment taking in and signing for deliverys within the shop advising the boss about what to buy and when giving genral knowlege of gaming systems to the boss contacting the guy who mods the 360 firmwares, and mods the wii's among other fucking horrible jobs, one of which (today) was cleaning the boss's car Quote
Joe =/ Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Ok why is it a terrible job scoot. Sounds alright to me. Also, why the hell did you clean your bosses car, he obviously doesn't value you very much. Should of told him to fuck right off. Quote

Aero Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 i work for orange as a silver (soon to be gold) phone trainer, its a pretty sweet job, decent pay, great commision and i kick ass at it apparently also- At the moment I'm working as a temporary...office guy for, yes, Worcestershire County Council. It's becoming an annual thing, this is the third spring/summer I've worked here. Basically I work in an office with one other girl are you saying that you are infact a girl thom? Quote
scoot Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 why the hell did you clean your bosses car, he obviously doesn't value you very much thats the exact reason it sucks, having a boss thats a bastard to you all the time, and constantly complaining about my image isnt that great plus the fact that i can hardly ever understand his words 'Scottie, you go clean car, and no wear black jeans no more, no go good with black shirt and long hair' the bastard gets fucked off because 'Scottie you honky go get multi vitamins' fucking wanker treats me like a slave Quote
Thom Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 You're an ambassador for his business though, if your image is inappropriate then it reflects badly upon his business, and livlihood. Quote
scoot Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 i wear the same stuff as everybody else, jeans and a blank shirt. although nope, its wrong to wear a pair of black jeans and a grey shirt together :\ also he wants me to get my hair cut with that i did tell him where to fucking stick it. im sure by law aslong as my hair is tied back and is tidy he cant make me cut it short. either way the bastard still treats me like a slave. hes also one of those people who will complain that people shout 'paki bastard' at him, yet then not 10 seconds later, he will say 'that polish customer had a stick up his arse, Scottie you gotta watch out for polish people' the fucking wanker. i havea strong hate for my boss Quote
crunk Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 I swear Thom's just reposting my old threads lately aye... so i'll just copy and paste my reply from that one. I've had a few jobs, mainly working in a restaurant kitchen, plus some brief stints as a labourer for a few landscaping jobs and being a checkout chick for 2 shifts... worst jobs ever. I just quit my job though so I'm probs looking at something like a bottle-o to get some easy money. Quote
Joe =/ Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 LMFAO ! Scoot, you work for a paki ! Glad I got that off my chest. Sorry. Quote
RingMaster2001 Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Things are low if you are a paki's skivvy. Quote

James Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 (edited) I'm the Operations Assistant. :-\ I'm over all Branch Transfers, handle some purchasing, ready payables for payment, And Warehousing (Customer Service, Shipping, Receiving) and I'm the resident Wood Salesman. Some of the warehouse guys named me the OPPB. The Official Paper-Pushing Bitch. Mainly, I'm there to make sure the Operations Manager comes out looking like a rose. Any time stock is moved between the branches, I have to make sure it's correct. I have to make sure that one branch receives the same amount of money that the other releases. It's like a $2,000,000+ a year thing, and I have to be able to show the Owner where every penny is. As far as the Purchasing goes, I order supplies and merchandise for the Warehouses. Nothing really hard about it. Look at the usage, and order the right amount for what ever period the boss wants to stock for. Warehouse: Customer service deals with answering the phones, and selling the merchandise to customers. You have to be trained in laying hardwood floors, sanding them, finishing them, and caring for them. Not a really hard job, but you have to know a lot. I'm not supposed to do this job anymore, but the guys at the counter can't keep up. So I end up helping down there quite a bit. There is also a shipping department that I used to run. So I help them out with loading/unloading trucks and putting up the merchandise. I started in shipping and I got promoted to Customer Service, and then to my current job. So I'm able to do anything really in the warehouse. Since my desk is located off of the Showroom, I'm the hardwood salesman for out in-house customers. I'm also a member of the "Inventory Team." I get to fly around to all of our locations and count/check their inventory a few times a year. We're the so called "A Team" because its always Me, The Owner, The Operations Manager, IT Manager, Vice President, and VP's Assistant on these trips. What sucks is that I'm the best guy there. I'm told that by the boss quite often, but I'm too young for them to trust with a money job/power position. I've been passed over for two $20,000+ raises, because they don't want to give a 20 year old that much power. They think I'll take it, and leave sometime later screwing them. They also pay me the same as most other guys because I dont have a family and such, but can work circles around them. I'm told that I'll be taken care of in a few years when I graduate with my degree. That blows.. </book> I didn't realize I had written so much.. Edited April 29, 2007 by James Quote
