Spectre Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Well it was pretty easy to to know that they wanted to make a Gears movie. Gears of War Gearing Up at New Line Studio lands film rights to videogame. by IGN Staff March 21, 2007 - New Line has acquired the feature film rights to the popular Microsoft and Epic Games title Gears of War. Scripter Stuart Beattie (Collateral) will adapt the videogame for the big screen. CAA auctioned off a 21-page treatment by Beattie, reports Variety, with New Line getting the winning bid. The game, which has sold over 3 million units and is the most successful title on Microsoft's Xbox Live, is about a world called Sera that has been invaded by aliens called the Locust. A group of military types, led by one Marcus Fennix, battle the invaders for the sake of humankind. "I'm not a gamer, but what blew me away about Gears was how it captures the mythology of a war mission and how high the stakes are," says Wyck Godfrey who, along with Marty Bowen, is producing the film through their Temple Hill banner. A summer 2009 release is planned for the film.also the UK said stuff. Gears of War: The Movie New Line secures rights to film based on Epic's epic. by Rob Burman, IGN UK UK, March 21, 2007 - Movie studio New Line has secured the rights to produce a feature based on the outrageously popular Gears of War, which could potentially be released alongside a sequel to the Xbox 360 game in summer 2009. According to Variety, New Line won an auction to secure a 21-page treatment by Stuart Beattie, the writer of Collateral, and that if the things go well with the production "New Line and Epic would surely love to see the film and a game sequel come out around the same time". Variety also reckons that Epic is hoping to use Gears of War's extensive back story to produce a series of film and novels. "We wanted to make an entertainment property that's not just for games but for other media," said Epic VP and co-founder Mark Rein. "Our first and foremost philosophy is to do no harm, so we debated heavily the idea of doing a movie at all," added Rein. "But we feel we stacked the deck in our favor by working with the best players." Once a full script is finished by Beatie, producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will start searching for a director. Well-groomed lead designer Cliff Bleszinski is set to be the executive producer and consultant on the film's development. Quote
jitz Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Securing the rights is by no means confirmation a movie is on the way. Why rights for stacks of games are in the hands of studios wait patiently to hit the big screen. Halo, Metroid, Metal Gear Solid to name a few. So it's nothing to get too excited about. Quote
Fozy Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 They'll have to wait until all 3 games are out to get at least half a movie, go play GoW, you'll see there seems to be a non-existent story. Plus, the only game worth putting on the big screen is Metal Gear Solid, it's a story driven game, it's like playing out a movie. That's what they need, not just another Resident Evil/Doom shitfest. Aero Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 i wish they would make a tv show or movie about SD!vRAW, man, that game would be so class in real life. Quote
Heart Breaker Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 I've always stood by the fact that Gears has a boring ass storyline. I've never found it entertaining whatsoever. The only thing that kept me playing Gears is XBOX Live. I just hope this isn't true. Quote
Legendeath Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 (edited) Aye. I believe that was true and in some parts made me go "what' due to how stupid it went sometimes. I have to expect another Doom/Resident Evil considering they have no story to base it on. They will just spend all their money making special effect blood during the chainsawing. Nemo Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 resident evil and apocalypse were sweet. fuck all of you. Quote
Jonny Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 MGS the movie better be in CGI, othewise it will pretty much suck. If it was in CGI, they could have all the original voices and not shitty actors that kind of sound like the charecters. Also, obviously being able to be alot more creative. Quote
Fozy Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I don't think so. We're not dealing with Final Fantasy here. MGS is realistic, etc. Quote
The Don Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 They need to shoot Gears like 300. Mostly green screen and even a filter would help the look of the movie. Quote
Nemo Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 no, they dont need to shoot the movie like 300. the last thing we need is a bunch of 300 ripoffs, especially since the matrix's bullet time effect is STILL being used in movies. fuck the matrix. Quote
Nemo Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 ugh, they use(d) it in svr too. no wonder i hate it so much. Quote
Spectre Posted March 27, 2007 Author Posted March 27, 2007 That'll be called Red vs Blue: The Movie. Id see that if they ever came out with it. RvB is one of the funniest things ive seen. Quote
Legendeath Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 no, they dont need to shoot the movie like 300. the last thing we need is a bunch of 300 ripoffs, especially since the matrix's bullet time effect is STILL being used in movies. fuck the matrix. I believe 300 was the best at knowing what speed and when to slow it down. I thought it actually was done right for once. Quote
