scoot Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 ok so my PC is starting to display signs of dying. which as a technician im going to take it for what it is, and most likley get a whole new system.....after ive got the PS3. i know the kind of spec id like to have. so if anyone an point me in the direction of any good offers, or good deals on something with the spec of, or close to the spec of the below. please note, genuine windows is not a problem, if need be i can reuse the one on my current machine. spec i would like: pentium D 2.8GHz or above (preferably with 2mb cache per core) OR core 2 duo 2.4GHz (perferably with 4MB cache) 2048MB (2GB) DDR2 RAM (PC667 or better preferably) 200GB or larger hard drive decent motherboard, possibly MSI or intel pioneer 112D DVD-RW sounds more like if i get a new system anytime soon im going to have to build it to get my desired spec. but either way if anyone see'sanything let me know please Quote
scoot Posted March 7, 2007 Author Posted March 7, 2007 most likley, but a 2.4GHz core 2 duo with 4MB cache is around Quote
Joe =/ Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I take it if you buy it from a shop or whatever, you're going to buy the graphics card yourself (that's if you want to game on it) and put it in afterwards. Quote
scoot Posted March 7, 2007 Author Posted March 7, 2007 im not wanting to game so much, its more for using loads of programs at once. id be perfectly happy with onboard VGA. should i want to game on it later however id just add a graphics card Quote
Joe =/ Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Oh, and what's your price range ? + does it need to include a monitor ? Quote
scoot Posted March 7, 2007 Author Posted March 7, 2007 no monitor required, im after a base unit only, and right now, im looking at around Quote
Joe =/ Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Good luck finding those specs for 300 quid. I was just checking if evesham had anything decent, but they seem fucking expensive so meh ... Just build one yourself or like you said upgrade your current one ... that would probably be your best bet. If you buy all that from a website or store you're very likely to have to spend over Quote
scoot Posted March 7, 2007 Author Posted March 7, 2007 technically speaking it could be a foolish move to make. Quote
scoot Posted March 7, 2007 Author Posted March 7, 2007 building myself gives me much more freedom, thats why buying prebuilt is an unwise decision Quote
Legendeath Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 www.newegg.com www.tigerdirect.com I know you probably know about it but it's still the cheapest place for parts. Quote
Joe =/ Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I thought you ment it was foolish to build it yourself... blah, i misunderstood Quote
Nemo Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 buying prebuilt isnt a mistake, not if its from alienware. and if you can, build the thing yourself. it'll cost a lot of money, but compared to what a company will charge you for the exact same parts, it'll end up being cheaper in the long run. Quote
Legendeath Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 buying prebuilt isnt a mistake, not if its from alienware. Fuck Alienware. They tried to rip my friend off. He got his computer for about 1/2 Alienware kept asking him to buy. Quote
Nemo Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 i doubt the specs were exactly the same or that he got it for half without losing a few extras. not that alienware isnt expensive, but from my standpoint, id rather just shell out more money instead of having to buy parts and build the fucking thing myself. i did that once and the comp became obsolete just as fast. Quote
Joe =/ Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Yeah, don't bother building unless you know exactly what you want and what your doing. Alienware do provide good pre builts, but yeah, they do like to empty your wallet. Mind you, their cases are pretty sweet. Quote
