Thom Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 No, I'm not trying to turn this into a lifestyle/homosexual board, I've just got a lot of manly things on my mind at the minute. But yeah, is anybody currently trying to lose weight/tone up/bulk up? A couple of weeks ago I weighed myself and came in at 13st, at 6'3" my BMI is normal, but I decided to go on a fitness plan, purely for aesthetic reasons. So at the beginning of last week I started eating healthily and exercising more, just to tone up and hopefully get a physique which vaguely resembles muscular in time for summer. My average day consists of; Breakfast: Cereal such as fruit and fibre, or wholegrain toast. Tea without sugar. Lunch: Couple of ricecakes or Ryvita with Laughing Cow cheese spread or wholegrain toast. Dinner: Some soup, maybe beans on toast, or chilli. Changes every day, but it's always something sensible. I make sure I drink at least 4 pints of water a day, and if I snack, then it's on fruit, vegetables, or something high in fibre and low fat. I take my tea without sugar. This isn't entirely different to how I usually eat, but now I'm just being more strict when faced with temptation, like if my housemate asks if I want a slice of their pizza I'll turn it down, or if I'm stoned I'll always have it in the back of my mind to eat something sensible, rather than the tastiest thing I see at the time. My biggest downfall is alcohol. I'll go out 2, maybe 3 times a week, and have 2 or 3 bottles of wine at my house before going out, maybe a couple of big bottles of San Miguel too, and then continue drinking when I get to wherever I'm going. Due to lack of money though, I'm gonna have to cut down on going out to maybe once a week at most, so luckily that'll help me cut down on the drink. Also I'm trying my hardest to turn down cigarettes if I'm offered one, but this one's pretty hard. As for exercise, my friends and I go to a local park almost religiously every day to play basketball and football, usually for an hour to two hours a day. If the place is empty then we'll do stomach crunches and pull-ups on the equipment over there. At home I do crunches, but I have a problem with my cocyx so it's painful to do too many, but I'll do maybe 20 three times a week. On top of this, I do 15 reps of my dumbbells 4 times a day, with three different lifting techniques. After doiing just the healthy eating and basketball thing for a week I managed to lose 3lbs, but I went out drinking 5 times that week, I'm not paying any attention to how much I weight though, as I'm trying to build and tone muscles rather than lose weight, and everyone knows muscle weighs more than fat anyway. So yeah, post with your fitness regime if you have one, and your goals, and we can all keep each other updated with how we're doing. If nobody else has one then, fuck ya. Quote
Fozy Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I used to be EXTREMELY fit, like seriously. Athletics was my strong point, I could outrun anyone, look better physically, even though I was never too buff, I'm quite skinny, but has a nice physique. Now I don't do much at all, I've slowed down dramatically and can't do anything for too long, beforehand I could run around all the time in a football for about 3 hours, without getting too tired. I've decided to start playing football more, eat a more healthy diet, try to go to the gym and get my abs back to how they were, girls used to go crazy over them. They're still there just not as defined, however gay that is, I used to love taking my top off for girls to go oo, touchy, and then i'd bang them. I also have two broken ribs, which no one seems to care about, so in time, it'll sort itself out... Weird. So yeah, just a basic get fit program, exercise and a good diet. Then I'll be all like, yeah. I'm fit again. Quote
Jobber Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I'm just doing some basic dumbbell lifting, 3 sets of 15 twice daily, and bench press every other day. As far as the eating/diet thing goes, I'm pretty laid back I eat whatever, I play basketball 3-4 times a week and I don't really gain weight. Just trying to gain a little muscle. I'm only about 5'11 and 155 lbs. Quote
CS Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I made a New Years Resolution and that was to bulk up alot and get in way better shape since I'm in grade 10 and decided I'm sick of being skinny and I mean skinny, on Jan. 1st I was 5'8 and 125 pounds. Since then I went out to my neighbourhood supplements store and bought some protein shake powder and some creatine pills. I take one shake in the morning and one after school, it consists of something like 50g of protein and a bunch of carbs and is about 300 calories. I have no last class so everyday I go workout in the weight room from about 2:30pm to roughly 3:45pm. I workout a separate muscle group each day and focus on those muscles the entire workout and then every night at about 9:30pm I go for a jog on my treadmill since its winter here for about half an hour to keep my cardio up. Since Jan. 1st I've proudly gained 20 pounds and now weigh in at 145 pounds. I feel great, I'm ripped to shit because skinny people always have more muscle tone and my confidence has soared through the roof in the weight room, at first I was really nervous to workout and out like just sit there the eintire time because I was embarressed about how little weights I could lift, my starting max bench was 120 pounds for 2 reps and now its increased to about 150 pounds for 6 reps. All I can say is I can't wait for football to start so I can test my abilities to the fullest to see how much I have improved in blocking because I was pretty bad at it before. On a side note I recently had my body fat measured and I'm only like 7.5% body fat when the average person is like 17%. Quote
Nemo Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 your bmi doesnt mean anything relating to your health. according to the bmi calculator, guys like dave batista, bill goldberg and brock lesnar are considered to be morbidly obese. i wouldnt think that any of them are suffering from weight problems. anyway. my diet: cereal for breakfast, whatever mom makes for dinner and green tea (or water) throughout the day. i do some calisthenics and weight lifting once or twice a week. i cant be bothered to do too much, but i do enough to stay in decent shape. i should drop some weight, but as far as i know, im not in danger of getting any fat-related illnesses. as long as im in the clear, fuck losing weight. Jhardy_jr Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Thom, if you are trying to bulk up and put on muscle then dont worry too much about eating healthy...its a good idea to steer clear of things like fast food and anything that is particularly greasy. But it is a good idea now to just eat and eat and eat as much as you can without making yourself sick and workout as much as you can, try and keep it balanced with strength training and cardio, dont only do one or the other. Protein heavy foods are good as well as fibre, sleep lots and work out on a semi-regular basis such as 3-4 times a week, working out too much will stretch your muscles too quickly and you could stand a chance of tearing something. As hard as it is if you are trying to bulk up alcohol is a BAD idea it slows you down just in general all the time, especially with how much you said you go out and how much you drink ( smoking is just as bad but its a little harder to stop then drinking ). I'm not sure where you live but you said you play basketball and football outside so if its possible try and continue to do some running and basic exercises out in the fresh air. Other then that i would say just dont overthink working out and try not to overdo it or you wont be able to workout on a regular basis. Quote
scoot Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 (edited) average food day breakfast: 2 cheese sandwiches/4 slices of toast, should the breadcakes not have been baked the previos day 2 cups of tea strong with 2 sugars 1 packet of walkers cheese and onion lunch: chip buttie with curry sauce from the chip shop accross the road large vegetable spring roll dinner: garlic potato bake with little tiny fish cakes can of red rooster a single sprigof fresh parsley (gets rid of the smell) supper: 2 more packets of crisps philadelphia on toast workout: lifting computers all day, and running for the bus that im about to miss that will take me to the dove and rainbow. on a more serious note i dont workout at all, and i seriosuly should. im 5'10 and i clock in at 9st. im skinny as fuck and not in a good way. but alas i cant put on weight because i dont eat meat which are the high biological value foods containing most of the essential amino acids. and protein shakes have a tendancy to make my face more rounded which looks fucking horrible EDIT: I used to be EXTREMELY fit, like seriously. Athletics was my strong point, I could outrun anyone ive got Edited March 1, 2007 by scoot Quote
crunk Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Eat meat you pussy. lol. As far as I go: Breakfast: OJ, 5 Weet-bix which are crazy high in fibre with milk or bacon and eggs. Lunch: Meat pie or chicken and salad sandwich Dinner: Whatever's on the table really, usually healthy with veges and meat. Also, I drink like 4 bottles of water a day at least, and a protein shake after exercising every day, which varies from: - Jogging - Swimming - Weights - Situps/pushups etc. It goes pretty good. Thom Posted March 1, 2007 Author Posted March 1, 2007 I'm not trying to gain muscle to bulk up, cause I'm a naturally big-framed guy, I'm just trying to get some guns to show off for entertainment/male prowess purposes, and tone my upper body. My I'm a 30" wasit and 38" chest, and I'd like to stay pretty much the same, just cause I don't think clothes look at good on people who are ripped as they do on people who are toned. That's why my diet is low in fat and low in calories compared to a "bulking up" diet. I physically can't bring myself to eat any item of food which is over 5% fat or over 300, maybe 400 calories. Today I had Fruit and Fibre with a pint of water for Breakfast, did 15 reps of my dumb bells then went to Uni (Got a lift). Just got back (Walked) and did 15 reps of the dumbbells with two different methods, then had two slices of Wholegrain toast with reduced fat pat Quote
Fozy Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 My arms don't get much exercise, I should really try focusing on it, but I just always seem to be doing something that concerns my legs and abdominal area. Meh. Quote
Big Bizang Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I used to do 50 sit ups every morning. Now I just can't be arsed. I never eat more than one pack of crisps or anything chocolate a day (something that has been ingrained in me since youth) and I don't seem to be putting on any weight. Being at uni makes me lose weight and then I put it on again with proper cooking when I'm at home. Last term I lost half a stone and then just stuck it back on again over Christmas though. Thing is though, I don't give a shit. I seriously don't care about all that diet shit. I walk a lot, I'm thin and I know I'm not unhealthy. My cardio-vascular activity consists entirely of having sex. Cool. Quote
crunk Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 YOU DA MAN. When I said what I generally eat before, it wasn't like I plan it like a diet.. that's just what I usually eat, because I hate greasy fast food. Quote
