...For my laptop. Can it be done, and if so, what do I need to buy.

just take the siding off the case. If your laptop won't fit in there, I don't know what to tell you.

A network Thom....

You only need them connect by LAN or WLAN. On your PC right click on the drive or folder you'd like the laptop to be able to access, then go to sharing and select the rights you'd like the laptop to have.

On the laptop go to my computer, then in the menu bar at the top goto Tools, then Map Network Drive. Choose the drive letter you want it have then find the drive/folder on the network with Browse.

Done.

Alternatively you can use an FTP server, but it's slightly more complicated.

Four sentences of instructions Thom, that's it, I told you everything you needed to do.

Is there something expensive and shiny or, preferably, in brushed aluminium that could do the job for me?
