Smacktalks Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 The forums are offline again due t excessive server usage. Our hosts have said the forums are using 60% of the CPU usage and it needs to be cut to 5%. At the moment i dont see how this can be achived other than by just using the forums for general chat and everything else on a simple html site that doesnt have to grab all the information from a database like the forums. This will take awhile to do so at the moment the forums should be back online, althought the game forums will be hidden to allow use of general chat, etc. while that information is moved to an html site version. This should begin this week. So for the time being all the best for 2007, Happy New Year! Paul Quote
The Don Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Remove personal pictures and attached images. Quote
Fozy Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Attached images take up like a whole megabyte. Remove personal icons is a bonus though. You're thinking big. Fag. Quote
jitz Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Iain, it's the 21st century, nobody calls people fags anymore. I understand this misunderstanding has been caused by you never leaving your house due to your severe agoraphobia. So add your agoraphobia to your homophobia and you have your classic closet serial paedophile that enjoys wearing women's clothing. Oh and we talking the underaged boy kind of paedophile, yeah, the Catholic kind. Quote
Fozy Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I never have called people fags. I'm not american. Dressing up is just a thing I do when I'm bored... Quote

RingMaster2001 Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Maybe we should make all the forums STP. Quote
DRAVEN Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Whats happening with the site??? Maybe u should remove animated sig's as they use alot... Don for example his SIG is 224857 bytes were as mings mouse is 6134 bytes Quote
Nemo Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 mings mouse and dons sig are both hosted on different servers. i doubt this board used "60% of the servers cpu" just by hotlinking a few images from other sites. Quote

Smacktalks Posted January 10, 2007 Author Posted January 10, 2007 Ok, i've changed a few settings on the board to try and cut down the CPU usage. Depending on how well the chanes work there may be more cut backs until I can raise the Quote
Smacktalks Posted January 10, 2007 Author Posted January 10, 2007 I've turned the back on to see how some of the config changes go. Paul Quote
Nemo Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 mots, how much b/w does this board use a month on average? Quote
Mr Sparkle Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 delete every profile unde 500 posts that hasnt been active for over a year Quote
RingMaster2001 Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Or sell the board to me and I pay for a dedicated server. Quote
Smacktalks Posted January 11, 2007 Author Posted January 11, 2007 It's not the bandwidth thats the problem, it's retrieving information from the sql table that causes the CPU usage to increase. A normal html site doesnt use hardly any CPU usage as it's not pulling data from a database, whereas having the whole site here as a forum every page has multiple queries that are run to get sigs, usernames, posts, titles, etc. I'm trying to move stuff to an html website. This should drastically improve the cpu usage, although doing all this by hand is taking ages. If I can sort the money out I'll get the dedicated server so we can get everything upgraded, etc. but it wont be till next month at the earliest when I'll be able to try and buy it. Quote
Fozy Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I looked up your host man, and it seriously sucks. Why not try to get a better one instead of forking out 250 quid? Quote
