My Norton trial that came with my laptop just expired, and I don't want to pay

Or try AVG, its pretty good, and free.

Avast! is the best, it's what I use and my computer has been virus free for years. I had Norton before that for about 6 months and got a virus that required the hard drive format, even with the background scanner turned on. It was at that point I decided that paying for virus protection is for suckers.

It's free for home use, which means it's free everywhere in today's dishonest world.

i used to use avg, started to turn to crap, at the min avast seems to be the way to go

i second the avast! motion. or you could always remove all traces of norton on your system and download a 6 month subscription via googlepack for free

i third the avast! motion. it sits there in the shadows (the taskbar) totally undetectible (uses hardly any resources) waiting to jump at any malware that tries to get on your comp.

its essentially the ninja of apps.
