DVD RW help

anyone know much about dvd RW drives?

i have one that appears to be set up right, but it will not read discs, neither cds or dvds, as such it will not write to them either.

i have checked the master/salve set up, and even tried it on its own.

i have also tried reinstalling it

and also deleted the upper/lower filters from the registry.

any other ideas?

replace it, sounds to me like its fucked, if thats the case, its not worth repairing, unless of course its under warranty and you can send it back for repair

have done a bit of searching, it seems to be common with this drive, but nobody ever answers on how to fix it. im starting to think that there is a fix more so than thinking its fucked like i originally assumed

manufacturers website may have something, if not, phone them. is it one of the new lightscribe drives by chance?

nah, tis a Sony NEC Optiarc AW-G170A which was bought on ebay from a legit seller...... however i am still suspended from ebay due to them being gay (as explained in another topic) so if it is fucked there is nothing i can do

the optiarc are of the new 18x am i correct? you see we have had a few problems in the shop with these ourselves not the same problem granted, but problems none the less

yup 18x. you hear of any fixes?

none, although your always better off returning that kind of thing to the supplier, its very rare that people will create and implement a hardware fix (if thats what the problem is). my advice would be to contact sony.
