Anyone Been to a Chiropractor?

So my medical and dental benefits kicked in at work a couple weeks ago, which are pretty kick ass by the way, and they have a chiropractor which is free for employees and community members.  It's a pretty well known fact that my back is knackered and as I was grimacing in pain at the end of the day my supervisor gave me the card and told me to set up an appointment.

So I called and set up my first appointment for the 5th (that was the closest opening for a new patient) and I was wonder if anyone here has been to a chiropractor and if it helped them any? I figure it can't hurt anything but at the same time the thought of having my spine all cracked and contorted kinda weirds me out. What has me a bit worried is I have a feeling I'm gonna be a sore motherfucker after it and since my appointment is late on a Friday they won't have time to do x-rays until Monday which means if something gets fucked up, I'm fucked with a capital ucked.

Is it the same as a physiotherapist? if so, yes.

Every month  I get an appointment to a Chiropractor, It's really weird to hear all that crack noises, but after that my body and my back feels a lot better, and it has helped to stop the advance of my scoliosis.
Maybe the first time it's a little painful, and probably you will get one hell of a headache after, but it's very recomendable that you take the chance...

(sorry if my english is bad... it's not my first language)

All a chiropractor is, is a doctor who dropped out of medical school and took a weekend course. In all seriousness I know a lot of people who have went to them and found success in it helping their ailments.

I know of lots people have had it done, they all say they regret it eventually, probably the person they went to in all fairness though. I would truly recommend acupuncture if that's something you're willing to look in to. I suffer from migraines and the second it was done, gone. It works on nerves and is better for you.  ;)

Acupuncture is something I never thought of, I wonder if they offer it there. I was talking with the ladies at work the other day about it and one gets the basic adjustments, one gets something with a wheel that sounds like a cross between a massage and acupuncture and another said she gets the thing where they use mild shocks to your muscle and nerves... like that new IcyHot thing that Shaq is pushing. I guess I'll have to talk with em when I'm there and see what suggest.

I'm not expecting this to fix me, just to help me get by a bit longer. I really don't want to have surgery before I'm 30.

I completley understand what you mean, it sounds like a good plan to talk first. Hope it all goes well for you though. Took me 13 years to realize it helped. And I've been having physiotherapy since birth so that helps.

To be very honest, no. But I have been thinking about it lately when every time I play rough with my PS3 controller like violently tapping the X button repeatedly while I was doing Submission moves on WWE '13, my back kinda hurts, but thankfully it's the muscle, not the bone, I do workouts for 15 minutes each day.

I just wrapped up a 12 visit package ( 3 times a week). Now dropping down to 2 times a week.  I LOVE it! My job is extremely hard physically (have to lift - stack - push - pull 75+ pounds constantly), and I could tell a difference in pain from the 1st visit to the chiropractor.  I recommend going to everyone.

Hard life you have there...

This is what I needed to hear. I don't do A LOT of lifting, pushing or stacking at my job but I will say that 75 pounds of chef coats when wet are fucking HEAVY! Thankfully he ladies at work understand (as it's gone out twice in the past 3 months) and if they see me emptying a washer on my own they come help but that can be a bit humiliating to the point I eventually have to look at them and say "Let me earn my pain."

What did they do to your back and did you hurt the next day? I've heard from more than a few people on here and elsewhere that I should expect to hurt but no one has been able to give me any more details than that. After my appointment I still have to get my check, go shopping and work for the next four days, I'd like to not be out of commission from something that's supposed to make me feel better,

1st, they'll do an assessment. Find out about your physical history (what hurts, why, how long. All that).  After your initial adjustment, you may be a little sore the next day, nothing major tho.  Then, once your body starts to line up correctly (after a few adjustments), you will really start to notice a difference.  The thing about pain is that we adjust our everyday life to it, we get accustomed to it, accept it.  Then, when it's gone, we tend to look for it.  I know I did. But now I have accepted the fact of being pain free, and feeling ALOT better.

I've heard amazing things about it and have been more than half tempted to try DDP Yoga. Only problem is by the time I get home, I'm physically and mentally drained. 8 hours running around it what's basically a big ass sauna will do that.

Yeah, I went yesterday and my hopes aren't high. The guy I'm working with is kind of a cunt who just RAILED on me about the pH balance in my spot or something? Don't think he understands that I had a smoke and mint before going in on top of the fact I eat mints at work all day. And he tried getting on my case for having a can of Monster and 2-3 cans of pop a day.. What that has to do with my spine I am still questioning.

He didn't do much work other than raising my left hip up where it's supposed to be. He spent most of the time poking nerves and showing me how that's effecting shit which was nothing I didn't know. He seemed more interested in browbeating me about my pH levels and my nerves being shot. The guy strikes me as the kind who's more worried about me coming back so he can milk my insurance for all he can rather than making me better. Monday I get x-rays and if he's still a twat I'm going to ask the front desk to either give me someone new or just cancel my upcoming appointments.

Bit of an update, I've been going twice a week and it has been helping, he's still a cock knocker but there has been improvement. For a day or two after treatment I can go like Superman at work. Even yesterday my supervisor noticed its helping and mentioned how I was going like I used to. Sadly that was short lived since I went in after work yesterday and left feeling worse than when I went in... As a matter of fact it was so bad still today that even the queeny bitch (who I was stuck working with) felt bad and helped me get my stuff done. I tried my best to get out of work early it was so bad, but naturally we were short handed as it was which lead to me gutting it out. Thankfully my coworkers and supervisors respect the fuck out of the fact that I did as much as I did considering the fact I had all to do to stand up.

But I'm not bumping this to go "Poor me!" or stroke my own ego for driving myself into the ground. I'm bumping this because I got one of those little electronic back pads, a tiny TENS unit, and holy shit is it awesome! Or anyone with reoccurring back pain, I highly recommend it. I stuck it in a so-so spot just to see how it was while I popped outside form a smoke and it's amazing. The only drawback is that the pads are rather small which makes it difficult for me as my entire back is fucked.
