What are you looking forward to?

I'm more looking forward to tomorrow's Nintendo Conference to see what the new console is like. Reports that came out this morning are confirming a touch screen controller that was rumoured but there's been no eaked pictures so far.

Here's the concept image, tho it's not the actual controller.

The new nintendo console needs to fix the online sections aswell as just updating the hardware coz the wii is so far behind microsoft and sony if they get it wrong they could end up like sega.

I seen on xbox.com that they will show halo 4 and kinect sports 2 today.

They didnt really show too much of Halo 4, it was just a small teaser to end the conference.

I tried out the Kinect Fun Lab Games but it's nothing special, I thought you'd be able to use your scanned self as your avatar but there's no option to use it other than in the lab itself. Also the lab's where you can scan in items isnt really great due to the bad quality images the Kinect camera takes.

From the show there's not really a ton of games i'm looking forward to, Tomb Raider, Star Wars Kinect & Old Republic, FIFA 12 & MW3 were the main ones. I was hoping for some other suprise new games to be announced but there wasnt really too much that wasnt already known.

Going back to Star Wars Kinect, even though i'm looking forward to it, it's more for the pod racing and space sections. The rest of it just looks to be waving your arm to attack while the player moves automatically which doesnt look like too much fun at all. That for me is the main downfall of Kinect, where as the Wii and PS3 both have the ability to let you control your characters movement.

I've seen a lot of hate directed at the Kinect stuff but I actually like it, the stuff is different they are trying something new and it beats what is currently out but hey it's a start. Nothing has really jumped out to me has amazing or ' I can't wait to play that' feeling, most things seem very by the book.

Im interested to see what Sony and Nintendo show.

Yeah, I wasnt blown away by any of the kinect stuff but I liked the way they'd built it into the games from what they showed (With the exception of "Lightsaber On!"). Ghost Recon looked quite impressive with the gestures to show of the gun modding and talking to your AI partners in single player is a good way to organise your squad, tho i'd still feel a bit odd talking away to the computer.

The Sony one doesnt start until 1am so I think I might wait until tomorrow to view it, I dont remember it being on so late last year.

Microsoft had nothing to show and made do with what they had, both Sony and Nintendo have had similar showings in recent years...especially Nintendo. I think we'll see more from Sony and Nintendo this year, Sony have the NGP and I reckon a few announcements up their sleeve, Nintendo have the new console.

EDIT - So the Vita will cost the same as the 3DS, the 3DS can go and get fucked.

I wasnt too impressed with Sony's stuff, mainly due to the amount it was focused on the Vita, as i've never been a big fan of handheld gaming.

One thing that did impress me was the Playstation TV and it's ability to show 2 players seperate visions on screen instead of using split-screen. The downside is it's only 24' for $499.99.

Yeah that $500 bundle did include glasses and Resistance 3 though, so that price for a Sony 3DTV isn't too bad. At the end of the day though, a 24" TV is pretty much useless to everyone, even in a bedroom 24" is too small. I like the idea, I think they will expand on it in the next 6 - 12 months with a larger model, until then I don't see a big market for it. You couldn't even watch a 3D Blu Ray on it comfortably...

The Uncharted 3 demo was really pretty, but we all expected it to be. I have a soft spot for the PS2 platformers, so I'm keen for Sly 4 too. Oh and I loved the desperate attempt to last minute hype Infamous 2; it just won't sell, I don't think anyone cares. Definitely in Nintendo's hands to steal the show. A good console showing, and a definite Zelda release date within the next six months will do it. Personally I'd like some news on the new Metroid, just to get the foul taste of Other M out of my mouth...I wont bank on it though.

I missed the press conference though I've seen the pictures of the console, I'm just not sure what exactly it does the controller doesn't look comfortable at all and the name Wii U :|

The trailer they showed was just a cluster fuck of plastic accessories, also this whole thing of taking the game away from the TV? isn't the whole point of a console is to play it on a TV. It seems pointless, yeah I'm really going to play a HD game on a 6inch screen, hell if someone wants to use the tv I'll save the game.

I just can't see this controller working when playing a game for long periods of time, sure it might be decent playing in short bursts but it seems like it would be clunky.

I'm just not sure what to make of it, I can't help but think ' is that it?'

the controller screen could be useful for maps, menus etc but using it that way basicly means you've got a big HD version of the DS with added accelerometer.

i think we need to know more about it but currently im thinking it needs to be cheap and have a blu ray player in it or something to convince people to give it a shot.

For maps and such it could work well but I'm not sure how effective it would be to use the touch screen while playing zelda or something with a boss battle switching items would mean looking at the controller then using on hand to use the touch screen.

Using the controller to interact with items could be cool, for example in LA Noire when you look through a book, if that came up on the screen so you could flick through it to find the name etc.

For just general stuff it could be quite good for navigating menus with the touch screen or using an on screen keyboard to type messages etc.

I'm wondering how well this will be supported though, because at the moment we have games adding in Kinect and move stuff and now a third platform to work for.

In the middle of 2009 when the PS3 really needed a good exclusive, yeah it was a good game. Never great, dodgy open world mechanics and bland cover based combat held it back. It struggled to sell upon release, was heavily discounted worldwide, in Australia it was half price within a month (I felt like a sucker for paying full price on release).

Thing is - nothing has changed. It's the same game. There's nothing impressive techincal-wise to get people excited, so it's really for fans of the original. I'd say the amount of those people who bought it because it was bargain cheap that actually finished the first would be incredibly small.

Feel free to get two million of your mates, pay full price, and prove me wrong.

Double posting to make the board's stats look a little better, I think everyone should start.

The Wii U looks gay and something Iain would be keen on.

That Wii U controller... The designer mock ups before annoucement were far more attractive and practical, I don't see anyone wanting to carry around a huge brick and play games on it. Anyways it all seems designed around a single player experience with that controller (I suppose that's the 'U' part), so I doubt they'll expect people to buy more of them for multiplayer games, more relying on Wii accessories.

It'll be interesting to see what they show later in the year at some Japanese trade shows when they have more in game to show.

EDIT - Just came back from the shops and saw Infamous 2 everywhere for $80, new games usually retail for $100, atleast $90. Let the discounting begin!

The controller is way too big, the video where it shows the guy using it with a gun add on just looks weird.

I'll be interested to see how people develop games for it but for me I used to like just sitting down and playing Nintendo platformers, so I was hoping for the new console to be less gimmicky and feature the Wiimote with a classic style controller aswell.

The most disappointing part for me was the lack of next-gen games that they showed on it. I was at least hoping to see what it could produce compared with the PS3/360 but they only really showed HD versions of the stuff you already see on the Wii.

Following Chris' double posting philosophy...

I'm more inclined to buy a 3DS now than a Wii U. Not because of the 3D aspect, but because of the games coming out for it.

I also think they're five years too late to try for the core market they ignored with the Wii, everyone remotey interested already has a 360 or PS3, they have no need for a Wii U. When it's released in 2012, it will already be a very dated piece of technology, just like the Wii.

For a laugh at how out of touch Nintendo is with their customers, have a look at this Wii U clip featuring that wanker Miyamoto (who thinks his games are ground breaking when he's simply created a third person platformer) and Iwata (the guy who showed of that Wii Pulse accessory a year ago that we've thankfully not heard of since).

The best game I've seen so far is Arkham City, Gamespot put up a demo preview and along with the game looking fantastic they mention around 25 hours of gameplay. http://e3.gamespot.c...e3-demo-preview

On the Infamous 2 sales front, it's being out sold on Amazon by pre orders for the PS Vita and Mass Effect 3 Collector's Edition. Yep it, a material object available right now, is being out sold by pre orders for a handheld that doesn't have a release date, and a game not out for 10 months.
