any good with it? Pro or lite? I bought the Pro version last night, was having some troubles with doing some things. The only tutorial I could find explains a few things, but skips out on actually how to do certain things and just says "do this". Was gauging whether or not anyone around here might be able to help out a little perhaps.

to be honest, we moved on before we really got into the "3d aspect" because remaking doom on it was super gay, but i could whip up a few levels of a 2D platformer in no time at all, its great software to make you realise a FEW fundimentals to games,... basicly objects and interactions rules to be fair

well, naturally, I don't expect to do much with it. Probably won't ever try to even touch any 3d bit. Certainly nothing like some of the games they have on their site that were made with it.
thanks Paul. Stupid me didn't even think about using youtube to for tutorials. Thats what you get working on a severe lack of sleep I guess.

what's wrong with using UDK or Unity out of curiosity?

theres guides to make the games featured on the site, use them 1st, they are piss easy to follow. then free run it!

@Alex, this was just what I came across (also cheap). They're probably loads more difficult to use right?

well UDK is free until you make a certain amount, I think it's 5k, then they take 50% of what you take
but its industry standard... alot of documentation too.
Unity, I don't know, but it's pretty cheap and I've seen some great things on it. It's also got an iphone sdk as well as really strong browser capabilitys.
I think any engine is a bit difficult to start from scratch, but when you know one, there's a lot of things that carry over

the UDK is for retail games then? I really have no intention of making any money off of games (mainly because I don't think I can learn enough to really do well with it and the only programming experience I have is GW Basic from a highschool computer programming class). Mainly I just wanted something to make a couple of games I came up with ideas for for myself to play with and a few buddies of mine. I'd definitely like to learn as much as possible and maybe actually make something thats halfway not crap if you have any tips you could offer up like what language(s) are most prevelant and useful to learn and things like that. Keeping in mind I have a full-time job, a girlfriend, and on-going education to contend with.
