The problem is if you upload a flash video thats an hour and a half long on to our server, then thats around 500MB? per user to download. 2 users, 1GB of bandwidth.
With Youtube it doesn't matter as it doesn't affect us.
However the main reason I choose to use Youtube, was because if I post a download here, only our users see it. On Youtube, our users and thousands of others can see it, meaning they see the link at the beginning and end and it works as free advertising.
They can then also subscribe, so they know when we post new videos.
If we can find a good source to upload a downloadable file to then I'll post that as well for the people wanting to download it.

i just re-encoded a 1min 19mb avi file to 2mb flv @ 320x240 res. (240x180 is roughly 1mb), which is basically 90-180mb per hour and a half or 5-6 downloads per gig of bandwidth. heres a screenshot of the flv:

sure the quality isnt the best, but it fits the low quality standards of youtube.
and speaking of quality, you can host high qual vids on megaupload/rapidshare (create archives and split em without splitting the movie) or users can share their vids via bittorrent, which was being done until my host shut down the st bt tracker a day after it was launched. could even have a mirc channel with people here running fservs to distribute files.
hell, you could even get a dedicated server to host shit. kind of expensive though :\
so yeah, whatever.

Sal is there a certain flv encoder you can recommend and I'll give it ago.
The quality looks fine the way it is on your .flv, I'm ripping these from old tapes anyway, so there not great quality to begin with.
