Anti-gaming lawyer Jack Thompson is making his voice heard again. His latest campaign is targeting the current Halo 3 phenomenon. In a letter to Bill Gates, Thompson states the following:

Dear Mr. Gates:

As you know, the Federal Trade Commission has repeatedly found that games rated “Mature” by the video game industry-captured Entertainment Software Rating Board are routinely sold to kids under the age of 17 despite the age rating. The most recent failure rate of the ratings on “Mature” games, according to the FTC, is 42%. The entire rating system is a fraud, and “broken,” the latter description aptly provided by Senator Hillary Clinton.

As you also know, Lee Boyd Malvo trained on Microsoft’s Halo to further enable him to become the remarkably efficient “DC Beltway Sniper.” That was reported by NBC News at the time and was noted in Malvo’s criminal trial.

You appeared on CBS’ 60 Minutes II and rather revealing and usefully noted that “the cool thing about these games is that they transport you to a world you think is real.” Precisely. Capcom has recently disclosed to investors that your video game industry’s violent games, sold to children, pose a real hazard to the health of the industry. Right on.

The hyperviolent Microsoft Xbox 360 game Halo 3 is scheduled by your company for commercial release in September of this year. The Beta version that was released last week shows us all just how violent the game is and how inappropriate it is for play by anyone under 17, as the “Mature” rating it will surely receive indicates.

Here’s the deal, Mr. Gates: Either Microsoft undertakes dramatic, real steps, through its marketing, wholesale, and retail operations to assure that Halo 3 is not sold, via the Internet and in stores, directly to anyone under 17, or I shall proceed to make sure that Microsoft is held to that standard by appropriate legal means. I have done that before successfully as to Best Buy, and I shall do so again as to Microsoft and all retailers of Halo 3.

Thompson is an idiot. Whenever someone commits a highly publicized shooting, like the Beltway Snipings, he says the shooter "trained" on a video game. Like at Virginia Tech., he says Sueng-Hui Cho trained for it on Counter Strike. How does he know if the kid played Counter Strike? Maybe the kid had a mental problem. I don't know, but no one but him knows why he did what he did. It's wrong for Thompson to automatically designate a shooting or murder the fault of video games, the developers, and the publishers.

the guy probably owned counter strike, and with tompson's vast knowlege of what a guy does on a game, he decided that the guy was training, rather than enjoying the game.

jesus fucking christ, if someone was being robbed, and they pulled out a handgun to prevent the theif getting away, and took a few shots, jack thompson would probably raid the guys house, find that he had completed halo 2 on the easy difficulty, and would put it down to 'training' on halo 2.

His problem is that he has no life, no kids and his wife(if he has one) is a 70 year old look hore. He has nothing to do with his pittiful life, so he wants to get famous for putting video game sales down the market, when in turn hes actually pissing off most of the world. He probably jerked off to the GTA Hot coffee because he couldnt get any.If he went after a game like WoW, jesus there might be a bigass riot, that or japan would attack us and want him for some reason, and hopefully and thankfully hand him over with no problem.Piece of Trash he is.

That Virginia Tech shooting was really horrible but to blame video games for it?ASSHOLE!!The guy played Counter-Strike in his TEEN YEARS and how old was he when he did that?He was 23!So let's say he played it till age 18 ,then he didn't play the game for 5 years so almost woudn't remember a thing and btw how can you train for a mass murder on your pc?Counter-Strike is clicking your mouse and moving your player with your keypad.A mass murder is not the same at all.Sorry for all the people in it and their familys.
