Can't believe Microsoft is really selling the limited edition for that insane amount of money. A couple of DVD's and a small little helmet cost $70 now? Come on Microsoft. I'll stick to my standard edition. Here's some quotes from some of the readers of this article that I found amusing.

"That helmet's not gonna be a collectible if everyone has it. $70 is too much for the helmet and some DVDs, without the cost of the actual game. Just spend $60 on the game."

"Honestly, this shows something is wrong with the gaming industry if the Legendary Edition sells more than 10,000 copies. Nobody needs a freaking helmet of a video game character for $130. Even if you're a 'collector' you don't need it. Microsoft is just trying to get money from you (which they KNOW they can get). Standard or Limited should be the only real choices here."

"I'll just get the $60 version. $130 is way too much for any game no matter what extras it has. I could think of lots of collectibles I'd rather have than a glorified paper weight. I guess if people will buy that crap, then Bungie and Microsoft should just laugh and count the cash of the sheep who buy anything with Halo on it. This is worse than Half-Life 2's $80 Collector's edition that was basically a flimsy box with a t-shirt in it. And at least that came with extra games. For $130, they'd have to include upgraded versions of Halo 1 and Halo 2, or better yet upgraded versions of the Marathon using the Halo engine."

im sure the american taxpayers are thrilled with what you're doing with their money, don.

hb, while i agree 100% with what you're saying, you've basically getting into a dispute you cant win for 2 reasons:

a - you cant tell microsoft what to sell their products for
b - you cant tell people what to do with their money (or other peoples money)

its lose/lose. the only plus is that you can get a cheap laugh at anyone you know whos got a master chief helmet on display in their house.

a cheap laugh, but a laugh nonetheless.

I'm not trying to convince Microsoft to sell their product for less money. Nor am I telling people what to do with their money. I am simply laughing at the people who will spend that amount of money for a baby helment and DVD's. And I am shocked that Microsoft as a company would charge it's "loyal" Halo followers that kind of money for some extra shit that will never see the light of day. You're supposed to give your loyal followers a break, aren't you? Microsoft does the complete opposite. Or atleast in my opinion, that's what they're doing. Charging that much money for some extra stuff?

All in all, I could care less if Don buys the "Legendary Edition" Because I won't. And the quotes I provided in the topic itself was people I could easily relate to. And I, for one, am glad to see that not everyone is buying into Microsoft's marketing scheme.

Therefore, you are correct Sal. It's a cheap laugh. And I guess it's rather pointless. But it's just a damn shame that Microsoft can rip so many little Halo followers off. I guess I shouldn't be concerned since I'm not one of them. :/

I wouldn't consider $130 for a Halo game and a plastic helmet to be a break. The only "break" is when the helmet breaks while it's being shipped.

Actually, Halo 3 is being sold at 3 difference prices. The regular edition is slated at $59.99, the collector's edition is set at $99.99 and the legendary edition is set at $129.99. I'm not sure what the difference between the collector's edition and the legendary edition are, but I think it's just the spartan helmet. The legendary edition seems to be the popular choice around here, because my local GameStop is already taking reservations for their 5th shipment!
