THQ, the company that does video games for WWE, has signed a five year contract with the UFC to do the same. THQ Executive Vice President of worldwide publishing Kelly Flock had the following to say regarding the deal, "We see WWE as an entertainment brand, while UFC is a true sports brand.”

I always said that THQ should do the UFC games, I just don't think that a life bar is how a UFC game should be handled.

id like a full body control system thats similar in play to that of fight night with the TCP.

the basic concept is, (on a standard dualshock2 control pad)

R1+movment of right analogue stick = right arm thrown in that direction

R2+movement of right analogue stick = right leg thrown in that direction

L1+movement of right analogue stick = left arm thrown in that direction

L2+movement of right analogue stick = left leg thrown

obviously add the holding down of certain buttons for certain effects

EG

triangle button+movment of right analogue stick=blocks in certain directions

circle button+movment of right analogue stick=attempt of taking down an opponent via grapple

cross button=quick punch strikes

square button=quick kick strikes

also i believe the game should work on a regenerating health bar system, as well as things such as ref decision, and quick clean strike KO's

hope that explains it all

mma is way more complex than wrestling and boxing which makes me have huge doubts over whether a good mma game could ever be made. its not like you can just assign a bunch of moves to a fighter and have a seamless or even realistic fight.

i can just see it now, a ufc game with finishers, weapons and backstage fights. sounds excellent.

I'm hoping for a "Ken Shamrock's Washed Up Challenge." Basically it's a rhythm based towel simulation.

Actually Sal, THQ made PrideFC's game and it was quite good. I couldn't be happier with THQ getting the license to make UFC games. I'll definitely be pre-ordering this game and getting it the moment it's released.

can you explain how the game handles the following?:

clinching
sprawling
getting past full/half guards
mounting
countering mounts
going for a submission on the ground instead of striking
choosing your ground submission
countering submissions

thats it for now.

THQ have grown since then. Damn it. Quit judging a game before it comes out, Sal.

I really want to see an MMA game made by EA with the Fight Night engine. That would be better than any THQ game.

How does that make any sense? Comparing Boxing to MMA? Are you saying that from a game that all we could do is move the analog stick in a slightly precise way to either jab, hook or uppercut could transition well into a fully fledged MMA game?

God damn you, idiot.

HOW DO YOU LIKE THE HOSTILITY NOW, ASSHOLE?

What I meant was that EA should take the Fight Night engine, put it into a UFC game, and speed the pace up a little, just like in real MMA.

I think what Iain is trying to say is the most wankerish way possible is that MMA has more more depth than a boxing game. It'll be extremely difficult to get the various styles of fighting to mesh under the Fight Night engine. Beyond punching you have kicking, take downs, submissions, mounts etc. Assigning all that to the analog sticks is impossible.

So it goes back to what Sal was saying in that they'll pretty much just make SmackDown but with MMA fighters, and really fuck it up good and proper. To make a good MMA game you have to not try to appeal to the mainstream crowd, your game as to be as complex as the fighting that takes place in real life. Those types of games simply aren't made, especially by THQ.

Are you trying to say this isn't complex enough for you?

It's complex in that it has a name I can't pronounce simply from reading it.
